Key fob stopped working

Featured Replies

One if the key fobs stopped working today . The led is still lighting up but nothing happens . I have testing battery voltage and both appear fine at 3 v each . The second fob is also playing up. Do these ever go out if sync? How do you re sync?

To add to this the central locking button on the driver door is incapable of locking the near side doors, yet the good remote locks all four?

get it tested to make sure it's sending an RF signal. They don't usually lose sync unless you take ages to change the remote battery or you have the car battery disconnected

There's something funny going on the key fob has started working again. It's the dreaded intermittent fault , and when I was messing about both stopped working momentarily so I am beginning to suspect the CCM or wherever the receiver is.

Ran a scan and this is what I got . Possible cable break in the bus?

01329 - Convenience System Data Bus in Emergency Mode

35-10 - - - Intermittent

01332 - Door Control Module; Passenger Side (J387)

49-10 - No Communications - Intermittent

00928 - Locking Module for Central Locking; Front Driver Side (F220)

54-10 - Incorrectly Equipped - Intermittent

00955 - Key 1

09-10 - Adaptation Limit Surpassed - Intermittent

00956 - Key 2

09-10 - Adaptation Limit Surpassed - Intermittent

Fuse 14

Try rebinding the keys through vcds if you have full version, as I can't see why one remote would function yet the other one loose half its functions. You haven't had any water leaks in the car recently at all have you?.

You won't be able to sync the remote until you've deleted the 09-10 adaption limit surpassed faults. I see this 1 quite a bit when doing new VAG keys

The basic problem here is the 01329 fault code. From the other codes I would guess that it is one the control bus wires on the passenger side. In most cases the door control is CAN-Bus.

There are lots of different variants. What year/month is it?

Is the remote locking factory fit?

It's a 2000 glx tdi not sure on month of manufacture . It is factory fit remote locking. Thanks for you help.

Rescanned tonight and 01329 won't go away . I have investigated the drivers door and all looks ok on this side. Next stop passenger side .

Anyone help with the test procedure to find the fault in the bus . Obviously I am looking for breaks in the wires but how do I use VCDS and measuring blocks to eliminate the door modules as a potential problem?

I think you have the 07/99, non-convenience variant of central locking. IIRC, the remote unit also controls the alarm if this is fitted. VCDS doesn't really help as everything is interconnected. If you find a lilac/lilac-white twisted pair at the black 10-pin connector behind the driver side 'A' pillar trim, then post again as you have a different variant.

First check fuses F6 and F44.

The next check I'd make is to examine the brown and black 10-pin connectors behind the 'A' pillar trim on both sides. Also check the earth points on the left/right 'A'/'B' pillars (brown wires connect to them).

I will check but the fuse box cover appears to be date stamped December 1999. Also when locking on the drivers central locking switch the passenger door locks but then immediately opens again. When the plippler locks the car the passenger door stays locked. Also when scanning there appears to be a central convenience module .

F44 is listed as heated seat on my fusebox and is not present

I checked the passenger side connector and it looked fine. I will get round to the driver side tomorrow.
