Wind noise.

Featured Replies

Starting to get on my tits now.

I've had this from new and usually ignore it with music in the car. However, above 50 I could hear wind noise from drivers rear door. Almost like someone had the door ajar.

Sent it in last week for a service and for a few niggles to be checked, including this one.

They said they had fixed it, by changing the rear quarter window in the door.

Now they have fixed it, up until 70mph. Or maybe I'm just being kind. Either way, it's still there on the motorway.

I'm not sure where to go with this, I can't keep making 50 mile round trips for an incompetent dealer, so I'm going to try another dealer, however I'm not sure they will take the warranty work on so easily?

My friend did say it feels like the door rubber isn't as compressed as the other door, making it appear to me as though the door isn't shut as right as it could be. Is this a possibility? Or has anyone got any more good ideas. It's not the rear quarter light glass.

To be fair to the main dealer, if you used to have a problem from 50 mph and you now don't until 70 mph, what they did has made a significant improvement and what they did clearly fixed the dominent problem. If this last fix was under warranty and cost you nothing I don't really see how you have a complaint? At the very least in the first instance phone them up to discuss the issue. If you do take it back, ideally try to get a mechanic to go for a quicky drive with you so that you can demonstrate the problem to them.

Possibly the striker plate needs adjusting inwards slightly, this will allow the door to pinch against the rubber a little bit tighter.

Bearing in mind that you need to keep the door flush to the wing so you can't adjust it in big chunks, mind you really shouldn't need to.

I have the same. Had so many parts replaced. Tried to solve myself with thick masking tape around the entire door to see where noise is coming from. Still no idea. Mine is rear right I have estate vrs. Drives me insane. Not much help but I have wasted so much time. Try the masking tape. Clean car first and make sure dry do you get as good a seal as possible. There are a couple of threads about wind noise problems if you have not searched.

Yeah I don't really give a **** whether they partially fixed it or not. It's a 6 month old car and shouldn't make the noise, end of story. My peugeot didn't, so why should this.

Will send it back again

Ahhh... Peugeot, I miss mine :-(

Yup agree.

Drive at 70 with someone who has good hearing in the back. Get them to place their ear against the door and work around all edges and you will identify where the air is coming from. When doing this make sure that all the heating and other noise sources are turned off.
