Cost Of Stopping condensation Windows

Featured Replies

The car is 9 years old and apart from needing new tie rods the car is still running great........well almost. We have know about condensation inside Skoda's are bad , I am now using a window blade to get rid of it from inside the car. My wife is wanting to buy a new car but I want to try stopping the condensation first. How much will Skoda charge to seal of the doors etc etc, I am no good at this kind of thing. The car has a new cabin air filter so I know it is not this.

No need to take it to a dealers IMO. It is a very very easy fix for the door seals and there are many guides and 'how-to's' on here with pictures to guide you. Also it might be worth popping a couple of 'damp traps' in the pockets at the back of the front seats.

If its only the front windscreen, and the carpet is dry why don't you try turning the blowers to the floor at night so the cold air from outside doesn't circulate into the cabin.

Lee is right, drain door carriers, seal with loads of sealant (I used screwfix gutter sealant) worked fine, long journey with ac on and recirc and mine was fixed forever

My friend swears by this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Portable-Air-Dehumidifiers-Household-Car-Wardrobe-Kitchen-Bedroom-Bathroom-Damp-/191021975655?pt=UK_Home_Garden_Hearing_Cooling_Air&var=&hash=item2c79cc0867

The one at the bottom has a 12v cigarette fitting

I have one similar to those with a power socket and mains leads.

It is very good I was surprised how much it had in the tank after being on all night even though my doors do not leak. I think some of it is from getting in the car when it pouring with rain and the dampness is held in the carpets etc.

its not just the Fabia, both my Audi A8s are the same and get condensation inside overnight on both front and rear screens. Judging by the number of cars I saw driving from Herts back to Dorset last night, its the time of year. Looking forward to the spring when the problem disappears.

Having sealed both back doors with plumbers gold it still had no effect. I recently bought one of those Eco car dehumidifier bags, a cloth bag with 1kg of active carbon. I have to say it has made a big difference. Still not completely condensation free but no drying off the inside of the windows with a chamois before I go anywhere. For about £12 it's a fair price for the time it's saved already.

Leaks make it worse but I don't think the Fabia is particularly bad for condensation, it clears fairly easily and it's the same with most other cars.

The Quick Fixes are :-

1. Use an anti fog application on the inside of the windscreen.

2. Small fan heater plugged into the cigarette lighter socket.

The Main areas for leaks are :-

1. Door carriers mainly rear doors (guide allready mentioned above) ( I used plumbers mait rolled up in to really small beads)

2. Rear screen leaks into the hatchback.

3. The drains for the heater airbox cloggs filling the front footwells.

To dry the car out in winter you can run a de-humidifier inside the car every couple of weeks.

My car is still going although I have still to get around to doing the 2nd back door.

Drop links, well they are just disposable....

it's also worth properly cleaning the inside of your windscreen every month or so. It's amazing how much grime accumulates on the inside of the windscreen which in my experience, makes the condensation worse.

I've tried a lot of products on the windscreen, but the only thing that really works well is an automotive glass polish. I use the Autoglym glass polish that is a cream you apply to the window and buff it off. Well worth a try.....it's about £7 a bottle, but you only need a little to do the whole windscreen.....my last bottle lasted 8 years!

+ 1 for this.  Well, I actually got mine from Wilco ('Kilrock dehumidifier') so i think they were £2.50 instead of a pound but they do seem to make a difference.  Nowhere near as much condensation in the mornings as before.

And as above I wouldn't feel persecuted simply as a Fabia owner.  My wife's Honda Jazz is no better or worse, and the screen can mist up really easily even when warmed up and on the move in the winter.

I used the hoover at a shell garage for this and it didn't go bang.  Not that I'd have cared, I'd have just pleaded ignorance.

Worked a treat

  • 3 weeks later...

This is the amount of water collected in one footwell before I sealed to door carrier.

Didn't help the car standing for two weeks.

I ordered one of these sets of re-usable dehumidifiers from amazon the other week, after sealing my doors a couple of months ago...

One I leave on the parcel shelf, and the other on the dashboard. Now I just get in and drive. windows barely mist up at all. I also point the fan direction to the floor when parked up, which seems to help
