Rattling n/s door front door area

Featured Replies

I have a Octavia 1.4 SE 140 ps with an annoying noise coming from n/s door B pillar area. The car has been doing this since it had about 300 mls on it, it now has done 1400 mls and is getting worse. The car has been to garage twice first time they found nothing, the second time they reckoned it was the seat belt in the B pillar.Ok so they did what they did to the B pillar but after 2 days the noise/rattle returned. If I have a passenger in the front seat the noise eases but with no one in which is more often the noise is back with a vengeance. My question has anyone else had a noise/rattle from this side of their mk 3 if so please let me know as it is driving me to despair.

I have this also, it comes and goes - need to get into the passenger seat when someone else driving to locate it still.

Try the seat height adjuster - newer models have a bit of felt there to prevent rattles from there.

I was wondering have you tried sitting someone in back seat and tried to trace the noise to a precise area, or get the person to try different things like puling on seat belt, pressing on trims etc to try and locate it? I know the dealer should be doing this but perhaps if you can say to the dealer "if you do X at Y the noise stops" they may be able to hopefully fix it once and for all for you.

Thanks for your replies, the last time I took the car in I asked the service guy to sit in the back and listen for the noises which he did.He agreed there was a noise and I left it with him ,when I picked it up the day later he said they had taken the B pillar cover off and done some mods.I am sorry but do not know exactly what they did but like I say in post the noise returned 2 days later.I have driven with the seat belt on full tension and plugged in but noise was still there. To me it sounds like the door but don't understand the noise stopping when someone is sat in the seat.Igdos I will have a look at the seat adjuster tomorrow and again thanks for replies.

Does the person rest their knee against the door by any chance? Just wondering as if it is the door this might stop it rattling when the seat is occupied.

Read recently that WhatCars long term test SE 150 H/B is awaiting a new nsf door card due to a noticeable rattle in that area, particularly when it's cold.

Hope of help,

Thanks again for the replies, today I wedged a bit of rolled up cling film between the seat height adjustor and the plastic housing of the seat. This seems to have done the job, drove home from work no rattle tried again this evening no rattle.Tomorrow morn going to remove cling film and listen again.Igdos you may have saved my sanity

A friend has a VW Passat and he has been driven mad for months with a rattle which he thought was coming from the steering column. His seat adjusters look like my Octy 3 & I suggested pushing a cloth between that and the seat - Hey presto noise gone. The velcro fix seems to be the answer if it is the adjuster.
