Replacing an ECU

Featured Replies

Just bought a 2260 set up including engine with cams and injectors in just wondered if I could put the ecu on as it has already been mapped to the setup

If you read this thread from the start, you'll see that it isn't easy.

If you know someone with the correct programming gear, and the knowledge to use it, you may be able to do it.

Not plug and play though.

The instrument cluster is the heart of the immobiliser system; you've got to persuade it to accept the different engine ECU.

It would be much easier to have the map copied from the Ibiza ECU and blown into the VRS ECU if you already have it on hand.

Could just get the immobiliser defeated in the Ibiza ECU and it will just plug in.

Whatever you do will need professional intervention in one or both of the ECU's but you can't just plug and play.

Cheers for replys it has been we immod if not were can i get it copied

If the Ibiza ECU is plugged into the Fabia, would it power up to allow the map to be downloaded with the differences from the Fabia ECU map being read through EDC15P and copied over into the Fabia ECU map - you can find differences between 2 maps with the programme.

If using EDC15P be extremely carefull as errors could BRICK your ECU - read up on how and what you can do.

This would allow all the other settings in the Fabia ECU to remain matched to the car.

Sorry to bring up an old post...

Someone's offered me a mapped up ECU with dials and key, would that still require coding or plug and play?

Why don't you just map yours, it's not expensive and much less faff, plus you're not buying a potentially dodgy map and you can choose a torque limited map to preserve your clutch and flywheel.

I'm having difficulty finding someone who will custom map mine local. Mines already mapped but not to its potential... Was going a slightly lazier way around it 😂

Why do you need a custom map if the generic map off a scrap ECU is good enough?

What you're saying doesn't make any sense at all.

Nobody needs a custom map unless they have some kind of magical unicorn spec, as for your remark about potential, I'll take that with a pinch of salt.

There's nothing new in VRS tuning and hasn't been for donkeys years. If you've fitted a bigger turbo since your car was mapped then you might need a new map to go a bit faster any other mods won't do anything so your existing map will be fine.
