Replacing an ECU

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

Can anyone tell me what other parts, if any, I will need when replacing an ECU? Or is it simply a case of fitting the new ECU and getting it all coded in and everything else coded to it?

Thanks in advance,

Ben

You will need the skc from your dash which is easier said then done. You need it to repair the immbo (dash) to the new ecu.

Search Ross tech on how to do it.

Thanks faboka mate

That's for immo 2. We have immo 3.

my mistake. I though it had said Fabia 01 under avatar but just seen it says Fabia mk1. That's probably due to doing 450+ miles in 1 day as well as 5hrs worth of work! Anyways, with immo3 you need SKC from replacement ECU as well as your original SKC. Not that hard with the correct kit

Lol thanks anyway actionman!

I think it will be a brand new ecu looking at it. Too much work to be swapping all that over.

Easy enough swap mate.

Plain and simple, all you need is the SKCs.  Anyone with a Supervag plus 2.0 or vag can commander etc can get you the ecu skcs although even vag tacho will pull the old skc straight from the clocks (although you still need to get the new ecu skc).  Then you can just use VCDS to run the adaption.  It's almost as easy as swapping a set of clocks.

very interesting reading above, does a brand new ecu have an skc code in it or not.

also is the software for that particular ecu already installed

no they don't have the SKC already in them & yes the ECU software is already installed

Although the software may not be at the latest level.

Hi gents thx for your response, but im still stuck on ecu replacement. My fabia 1.4 16v bbz engine.

My ecu was not sending signal to injectors 3 and 4.

I went to breakers yard and got ecu clocks and ignition to avoid programming, only to discover that ecu from breakers had issues,so

I went and bought brandnew ecu ex stock.

ive plugged it in and immo light on dash is flashing as expected.

Ive had my mate come over to programme ecu to immo and its now asking for ecu pin code.WHY I DONT KNOW and where is the new ecu pin code located or stored as I know you say it doesn't have one.

We did manage though to programme keys to immo and correct mileage on clocks, using skc code.

According to my mate we are using Vas pc to programme which is what he uses at work at volkswagon dealer.

Please help im situated in MK

Sorry is my immo flashing on clocks cause ECU is not programmed to immo

thanks again

You need to code the engine ECU to the dash cluster.

When this is done successfully you will have your chassis number in the engine ECU data.

thx cruise control we tried to clone ecu to dash cluster yesterday and it asks for ecu pincode.

we tried using skc code in cluster but nothing still wants ecu pincode

thx

do you think maybe it needs to be done logging onto vw Germany

thx.175.00 quid later at local dealer

Ali at Unit 18 which is at Galleon Wharf, Old Wolverton Road, may well be able to help. Ring him on 01908 320043.

thankyou gents for your help will try to do this tomorrow once I can retrieve skc from ecu

much appreciated

hello gents thx for your help ive had vagcom and it seems ecu has now been coded to immo.in measuring blocks it comes up with ecu ok.

the immo light is still flashing though and measuring says they are no keys coded to the immo.We tried vas pc latest software from vw and also vagcom vcds

and both have failed to reprogramme the keys to the immo.one says unsuccessful, and latest vas pc from vw says error code 1197 or 1176 one of the two.

Bearing in mind that vas pc did code the keys once before but after ecu has been done it wont do it now with both.

Any suggestions please gents

hi all an update and help or tips please.ive now had 3 different people look and try and still no joy.had a guy who also specialises in keys and ecu programming come out today

and could not programme keys.He says the ecu has two chassis numbers in it, my one and also another one.IM assuming this new ecu has been programmed to another vehicle

although I was told its brand new.He now tells me the immobiliser on ecu has been disabled probably because the other guy did not manage to programme it to my car and cleared or disabled the immo,so now keys wont programme even with brand new transponder which I believe is error code 1176 faulty transponder. He tells me I need to send or get immo on ecu back on and retrieve code from ecu to adapt.

any suggestions as im pulling out and paying and not getting anywhere.

hello all finally my babys on the go again,i had a guy from mkt&b local in Milton Keynes and was magic.the ecu would not give out any pincodes so he logged it all and sent the logs to software professionals who then read up the ecu pincode and called him back and guided him through the whole thing with a special machine

hooked up to wifi and in seconds immo light went off and car started 1st time.my chassis number is now stored in ecu.

thanks all for your help.

I now have to get hold of towcester vag for a refund

Why would you bother, you'd have to recode so many modules, just buy a cheap generic remap.
