Years ago I used to work with a bloke who had a heavily modded TL1000S (including a SSSA, believe it or not), but he often used to take his wife's SV out for a blast, because it was just bloody good fun to hoon on, which is what biking's all about, at the end of the day (well, it is for me anyway - bikes are toys for raising grins and giggles when the sun's shining, and the tarmac's warm and dry, and preferably flowing through somewhere scenic, as practical transport, they're as much use tits on a nun, lol).

    All that build up and it was done in 8 min Passed with 0 minors, pretty chuffed. Done a little exploring of Uxbridge, seems ok, just need to keep an eye out for speed limits not knowing the area.   

The sv suspension is so basic though, if you hit a pothole (not a very big one at that) the forks will bottom out. Its sorta offputting in a fashion.

I steer clear of IL4's myself. Prefer pretty much anything else. Vtwins preferably but got a v4 atm which is quite nice for what i use it for. Im not interested in screaming everywhere or waiting for the revsv to build, it gets tiresome. Id rather just have more low down grunt to open up in any gear and overtake.

Same with the standard bandit suspension. That's the problem with damper rod forks' ultra basic design. They're the worst of both worlds - soggy, soft and wallowy, but with harsh high speed compression damping. And the shocks on both bikes are equally basic, and equally poor. Both bikes have basically the same suspension, but both can be improved a fair bit very cheaply (or a lot, if you want to spend considerably more).

Each to their own. I find low revving bikes that are all low end grunt boring - lazy bikes for lazy riders, lol. V twins don't normally do it for me, although I had a 748S for a while, which was fun, but that needed revving hard too, it was pretty gutless low down. Triples are a nice mix of low down torque and top end rush.

Depends on the twin. Its nice to have a flat torque curve through the revs imo.

The v4 ive got atm is abit more peaky. It loves to be rev but has a nice amount of bottom end too, but not like an il4.

I've had 2 strokes, IL4s, a triple, Vtwin and now a parallel twin.

Of all of them, I prefer the triple for the combination of grunt anywhere and the smoothness somewhere the 4s.

Apart from the v twin, I've got all of those currently, lol :) Triples are a really nice engine for a road bike.

My journey lasted 6 days, Direct Access Course. CBT, MOD1 MOD2 £699. Fantastic instructors, ex military, fire service, great debriefs after road rides to identify weaknesses or mistakes. Passed 1st time. The company is in Farnborough and is called 1st Gear MTC, thoroughly recommended and has a FB page if you don't take my word for it. Hopefully I will complete on a Honda VFR750 this weekend as long as it is as good as advertised.

5 days for me ;) That was back in the days of just doing one test though, CBT had only just been introduced. Did it with CSM rider training, a national chain with various centres, long since confined to history.
