CUE

Featured Replies

Last Saturday I went online to compare prices for the wife's car insurance later in Feb. I pull up last years info on Go Compare, check the details, adjust the current value of the car and get the quotes. I find a quote I like for £80 less than the current renewal price, then I click the link to the insurers site fill in an claims / conviction details etc, then add and adjust a few bits and the quote is still £60 less.

So I pay for the insurance and cancel the renewal from my current insures.

Today I get a letter from the new insurers cancelling the policy because I have not declared two at fault claims and the claim I declared as non fault is down on the CUE database as my fault.

This evening I call the insurer and explain that I am right and they are wrong, they explain that the info is from the CUE (claims and underwriters exchange) and was provided by my insurer.

I spoke to my insure who has the claim I declared down as non fault (someone ran into the back of me on the motorway) and closed. the other two dates were when I reported some minor damage, which the other persons paid for so no claim was made. My insure confirmed exactly that and these were listed as non fault / no claim/ cases closed.

So how the F**k are they on the DUE database as all my fault?

I will be speaking to the claims department on Monday! :wall:

Issue now is you'll need to declare the declined or cancelled policy.....

It's pants, but this does happen semi regularly and often it's an automatic update to CUE from the insurer done from butterfingers.

For £10, submit an SAR under the data protection act to CUE at http://www.insurancedatabases.co.uk/default.aspx

Then you can see exactly what is stored so you know it's not the insurer yanking your chain. Then write to them and get it corrected. Again under the data protection act they have a legal obligation to sort any incorrect data they hold that relates to you.

Yes this was one of my concerns, however the new insure said that if the database is corrected that would be happy to issue the policy.

All sorted out last week, but I still don't know if the database has been corrected. When I spoke to my other insurer they said that errors on the CUE database are quite common, but he went on to say if there is a discrepancy between what is declared and the database we phone the previous insurer to check their details.
