Repeat Q For Superb Owners..

Featured Replies

Any of us luxuriating in our Superbs done anything to the standard fit ICE?

I am contemplating replaceing all 4 of the main speakers, but leaving the HU and changer alone as I like the dash display link up.

The current sound is OK, but seems very Skoda-ish, so I just wondered if anyone has done anything yet?

Cheers

Andy

Hmm...wonder if the speakers themselves are the same as in the Octavia. According to spec, the L&K Octavia has "upgraded speakers", so maybe they will be the same in the Superb as in the L&K. Guess ETKA would give the definitive answer.

Have you had a look under your speaker grilles by any chance? Seem to recall vaguely one of the Fabia owners saying that the speakers were held in with rivets rather than screws, and wondered if that was a feature of the newer Skodas (design-wise, at least)...

Haven't done anything as yet, I find that although the HU's are the same in my RS and Superb I find the sound better in the RS. I put this down to rear door speakers rather than rear side shelves in RS. Still pretty good in my opinion

My long term goal is to retrofit OE Sat nav and keep the speakers the same. It would have been good if there was a din1 sat nav that would fit into the spare DIN but driving the original speakers.

John - would you not go for an aftermarket Sat Nav system? Then you'd be able to get one that is only a single DIN, it would cost less than the OE one, and there's a good chance of it sounding better too... :)

Interesting that the rear speakers are in the doors - they're the same size as the fronts, so it might be 17cm all round, rather than 17 and 13cm like on the Octy. Think the speaker mounts are a but better too...

Well John, why not check out my review of the Blaupunkt DX-R52 over here :D

Oh stop, please!!

Jeez, I'd hate to hear the standard ones if these are upgraded.

On my Xmas (or should that be :xmas: :baaa: ) list already.

Sorry When I said single din - I meant so I could keep the OE radio/cd multichanger intact in one DIN position so the steering and maxidot display still function with a seperate sat nav in the other DIN. That would be the cheapest and less disruption method but would need another aerial and speaker conection.

With OE fit the sat nav directions are also shown in the maxi dot display, and controls on steeering wheel still function for volume and cd change + the option of TV etc.

Maxidot display? I take it that's some kind of versatile display area on the dash?

Can see why you want to stick with OE stuff to keep that, though the Skoda ones are far from cheap!

The RS also has them, so I guess they offer more 'boy racer' bass.

The vRS has them?!

Guess spending an extra 50p per speaker isn't going to cover the inadequacies of the HU...

John,

For sat nav system I would definitley recommend an after market type with colour map screen - it is much more versatile than the turn by turn type that would presumably be offered by maxi dot display.

For a cost effective DVD based (all of Europe coverage) system, I can highly recommend the Panasonic DV2300 system that I have.

Its' only got a 5.8" LCD screen, but it works very well and is extremely good value. The computer unit will fit in a DIN slot, though then fitting kit doesn't come with it - but as it's a DVD system, you would rarely need access to the unit - mine is fitted under the false floor in boot (Octavia Estate).

Thanks for the info John,

The maxi dot display is an extra display on the Superb that shows route instructions from the OE Navigation unit it suppliments the 5" Colour Display on the double DIN unit.

The maxi dot display on the non navigation option Superb shows cd/track info for the standard CD multichanger unit as well as warning messages etc, like "Please Refuel"
