Out with the old vRS and in with the new!

Featured Replies

I have looked for a Road Test Video i recently posted, or OzFabia did maybe, but can not find it.

Even though these test can often be rubbish & this one was a bit much.

They dragged a Hatch against a Silver Estate and the estate left the hatch for dead.

But then Silver is the new fastest colour.

Cheers, just found it as well and realised there were old CAVE engine ones.

So we could have different tyres, different drivers or maybe just better traction at the front of the Estate,

so much to choose from.

Full Vid.

With regards to the difference between the CAVE engine and CTHE, fundamentally they are the same unit. But so was the PD130 ASZ and BLT. But it was discovered that the BLT had 10-15 more BHP than the ASZ.

And the estate is welllllll better than the hatch! End of.

I'm seeing a MK2 VRS civil war beginning.......... ;-)

Pfff... these videos of standing starts are old stuff... and perfectly useless as everyday driving is nowhere near top speed or straight roads. I bet the estate laps any track with more than one bends slower than the hatch. But most importantly, as I said earlier, in reality an estate will be driven by a mother taking the kids to school or by Sharkrider going fishing with his dog whereas the hatch will have the 25 kg ballast serving as a perfect counterweight in the satellite installation (it's true!), lowered, and probably with a remap on!

Estate envy. ^^^^^^

No but in all seriousness, you cannot make those assumptions about estate owners. :-) I have no kids, no dog. I ride mountain bikes and play in a rock band. I needed the space but also wanted something quick to hoon about on track days and have a giggle in. Got plans for mine this year including a Map and handling mods.

In reality they are so similar it makes zero difference to performance.

Nooo, "mine is better!!!"

Seriously, I think this estate appeal must be a british thing. Everyone with a real interest in cars that I know of (Englishmen aside) pretty much despises estates and I know for a fact, the vRS estate was never even out on some european countries (namely France and Greece but could be more), that's how popular they are outside UK. But, as I respect and go by the British taste in general, I can for once forgive an irregularity!

Audi RS6, BMW M5, Mercedes C63 AMG, You have to have a pretty big interest in cars to own one of those. So it must be a UK thing?

I thought they called them Combis to make them cool.

In the UK a Combi is often White Rusty & full of tools. that can be a vehicle,

or just a Boiler.

& Now we have the Germans changing it from Avant with Audis, to Shooting brake with Mercedes.

Fast Continental Barges are basically the coolest looking version of any model.

I am please to see that Honda are taking an Estate to Touring Cars in 2014.

Been missing the  Estates since the Volvo days.

Nah there won't be a lock! Friendly discussion! I value everyone's opinion, I just love talking about cars and we are all on here because we have or have owned a Skoda. And the Fabia VRS is a cracking car in each guise that it comes in.

Never said there are no "fast" estates but again they're just a fraction of the sedan/coupe versions right? Why? Because an estate is not exactly the definition of a "sports car" (although I wouldnt mind the RS6 tbh), the extra space/seats have a price which is the ugliest look. That doesn;t mean there are no exceptions. If for you an estate is better looking then good for you I guess. But I would bet the majority disagree on this. Even Ferrari made the FF, sophisticated, powerful and with a boot larger than 5 Enzo's. Still, it's an ugly and boring looking (for Ferrari standards) car. What can I say? Maybe in 100 years our standards and aesthetics criteria will be different but for the time being I think an estate can be considered to be many things but not a looker. Aaaaand, done with the off-topic!

Haha yeah I didn't mean to start a Hatch vs Estate war.

To be fair it's a good thing we all enjoy mass-debating over our Fabias ;-)

It's bad enough when we have Monte owners slagging off the vRS without civil war breaking out between hatch and estate owners :D.

It must be the stress of owning a vRS that's bringing out the bitching, handbags at dawn !!

Neither the Fabia hatch or estate could really be called a looker unless it's a Monte that is !

Only kidding of course.

Nice looking car FurbyTom.

The colour and the wheel option really suit it.

Personally I much prefer the look of the estate version as it's just better balanced.

The longer roofline helps to hide the gawky tall and narrow look of the hatch and overall just makes it a better proportioned car.

Talking of which the Hatch may be 5kg heavier with the ballast behind the rear bumper, but I think you'll find the estate actually has a slightly better weight balance due to having a longer rear end hanging out past the back wheels.

If you got obsessive and checked both I believe you'd find the hatch is still more nose heavy (on a percentage basis) than the estate as the ballast is still closer to the rear wheels.

So it's quicker, better styled and batter balanced. ;)

Obviously the better choice of the two!

Oh and major win on the climatronic.

Lifts the interior a lot from the clunky cheap looking three big plastic dials.

Should that not read 'Fur coat and no oil issues' George.

I know it's only banter that's what makes this a great forum, fun and informative.

Or fur coat (show) and no 'go' ;) .

Agree the Climatronic makes a big difference to the interior.

Furbytom,

can you remind us just what the said the Trade in on the Hatch was they were giving you when they sold you that vRS Estate which must be one of the biggest bargains

Skoda Dealers need to shift, New, in Stock and Used,  there are bargains to be had as the run up comes to the launch of a new Model.

Buyers market.
