Looking at getting an in car camera, considering the Transcend ProDrive 200.

Anyone got any experience or reviews to share?

Thanks

Just had a quick google search of that. Looks good to me, good features and nice compact design.

Where have you found that for sale? I can only find it in america etc.

Transcend have a UK office in Hemel Hempstead. I'm going to contact them on Monday. There was a good write up on it in a recent auto express.

I would want to wire it up to the 12v socket next to the hand brake

The video of that one looks good wibb, is the quality that clear on playback? I think for me that's a bit pricey but I will take a look and keep it in mind

Jonro2009, I read a thread on here that was about Bossfox's Yeti, he has fitted cameras front and rear but I don't know which ones they are. You could try sending him a PM.

How long do these camera's run before running-out of breathe with it's memory.

Can't see any reference to the time it will run, before it run's out of memory..??

Thanks prykey I'll do that.

Giandougl they overwrite themselves unless the g sensor or the operator locks a certain journey

Thanks for the reply, taking-in what you state, again would memory cover the full complete end-to-end journey (Lands-End Cornwall to John O Groats Scotland), without interruption??

Thanks again..jonro2009..

My calculation taken from member 'BossFox' calculation with their middle figure of 44meg per minute camera memory active, on a 64GB memory card = approx 24hours recording.

To be honest I don't know how many minutes a memory card would record without looping itself. It would depend on the quality/resolution of recording and the size of the card. I believe a lot of the cameras support up to 64mb cards.

I run wired in front and rear cameras in all my cars and front only in all the work vehicles.

Blackvue 380 units. (400 before that)

Not the cheapest, but we've only had one or two issues running over 100 for a year.

I've only had to return one unit.

Didn't get on with the more expensive 500 series, much higher failure rate.

The 380 is all you need IMO.

If you use sensible video setting figure 33-55 meg per minute.

Not sure on other models, but the Blackvue 380 now comes with a 16gb card and will take a 32gb.

So you get hours and hours on there, then it loops and deletes the oldest files as it continues to record.

yes the video quality is excellent on the DoD LS430W, if you set it to record highest quality, resolution and FPS, expect to get about 4h30m from a 32gb micro SDXC card

I have a blackvue 380 and what really attracted me to it is how inconspicuous it is- sited in front of the rear view mirror its hard to spot from inside the car and nearly as difficult from outside. I've had mine for months and SWMBO hasn't spotted it yet, so thieving low life probably won't either.

Thank you BossFox for picking up on this :)

I've been looking into this myself, but don't really have much of a budget, so I've been looking into cheaper options.

Has anyone any experience of in car DVRs like this?

http://www.amazon.co.uk/E-PRANCE-Recorder-G-sensor-Megapixel-Detection/dp/B00FKTQ3NE/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

It gets good user reviews, and the previous version got favourable reviews too. I know there must be a catch somewhere though... Only one I can see so far, is that care needs to be taken when positioning the camera in the screen, so it's not recording too much sky, as the picture will be under exposed in the daytime driving into the light.

It was his review that prompted me to buy 2 cams for the vRS and Monte Carlo.

This is the unit I bought based on the other guys reviews - Even got hard wire fitting guide for a 2013 vRS (still need to find what I did with that and post it) and a Monte Carlo.

Here's the Monte Install with pics - Image heavy - https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/212341/DashCam2013vRSInstall.zip

What's the fascination with in car video recorders.

I know they're fitted to buses, coaches, HGVs, vans and the like where covering high mileages increases the risk of accidents so they're a good idea but are they really necessary to private motorists.

It might be because I'm old school but unless you doing high mileages or travelling in dodgy areas I don't see the need for them.

Or is just so you can have the footage shown on TV on those police, camera, action type programmes.

It's so when/if you do have an accident you have proof to back up your version of events.

The third party almost always is nice at the scene, then goes away, talks to people and decides it was actually your fault and now they are hurt/can't work/need an expensive hire car.  Oh, and suddenly they found a witness too.

Which can lead to expensive and drawn out claim settlements which push your premium up.

It's a form of self protection from getting shafted.
