I bet the answer to both questions won't be "MG Metro".

TBH I love all the cars listed

  • Or maybe even.....a late 70's rs2000.

  • This is one not many people would think about, but they were a fun wee car back in the days....1981 Lotus talbot sunbeam.

  • My third car was a Fiesta Supersport   Not the fastest hatch by any means, with its 1.3 twin choke engine, but it is definitely up there with the best looking   I loved the stripes and tartan inte

I voted VW Golf GTI Mk 2, although specifically it has to be the 16v version. I fell in love with the original 1.6 Peugeot 205 GTI, an absolutely gorgeous car but I have never even driven one! We owned a Golf 16v for a couple of years at it was a superb car; completely docile when you wanted it to be but an excellent hot hatch when you pressed on. Very hard to believe that 139bhp back in the 80s was "high performance"!

Completely agree the Mk1 get all the kudos for coolness ect, but the Mk2 was a better car and even with 139bhp could still give a lot of modern cars a run for it's money, given that it only weighed 1000kg.

Awesome cars. My mate had a Miami blue 1.6 205 gti it was a lovely car just wasn't built very well.

Well if we can include Mk2 Golfs in this debate then we can include this as well.

Very few cars modern or old will be able to show a clean pair of heels to this.

Edit damn i didn't see coops post.

I owned a Nissan Cherry ZX turbo......stop laughing,..it was a bit scary. Silver with a black bottom and "Turbo" in orange.

The spoiler fell off. It terrified my workmates and was swopped so that my dear wife could have a Mini.

Would I nominate it as an 80's hot hatch icon...probably not...but this thread has made me remember it....."fondly".

I had one of those. In that horrid bronze/gold colour. Insurance cost me more than the car.

For me the vote is mk2 fiesta XR2. Slightly biased though as it was my first car.

I was born in 89 so I missed all this stuff but my pick would be the Lancia Delta Integrale. I think it's aged spectacularly.
