I had a bit of a soft spot for the Fords from the 80's. (Don't tell Fordfan that :bandit: )

Not sure if it would qualify as it was more a coupe than a hatch, even though it had a hatch, but the Ford Capri 2.8 Turbo was **** hot back then IMO

  • Or maybe even.....a late 70's rs2000.

  • This is one not many people would think about, but they were a fun wee car back in the days....1981 Lotus talbot sunbeam.

  • My third car was a Fiesta Supersport   Not the fastest hatch by any means, with its 1.3 twin choke engine, but it is definitely up there with the best looking   I loved the stripes and tartan inte

I agree with this, as I love my French tat. Also, Visa and BX GTis, which are pretty rare nowadays.

As i put my hand in my pocket and bought a BX19GTi new (£9125), I'd have to agree.

Light and fast (for its day)

We've got one of those knocking around at work, but it's not a hatchback on account that most of its roof is missing.

How about something a little "left field"

Wonder if in 30years time we will all be looking back on the modern day hot hatches with auch fond memories...im not so sure

Id much rather have an older car than a modern one

Hear hear. I don't mind driving the Passat but it feels like riding a walrus around in comparison to the Golf. New motors are too heavy, too complicated and too expensive- I love the fact I can hang onto the back end of Mk6 gti.

I do remember the Uno but my mate's Fiat Strada Abarth was pretty spicy. I think it was the only example of that car I ever saw

I had a nova SR-1.3, then pug 205 gti1.6, became an mi16 after a year of ownership, many mods and a couple of pages in MAXPOWER:-/ i sold it for £1000! Lol! Then more recently i had a mk1 golf with a 240bhp G60 lump in it. If i could have any again it would be 205gti-1.6:) ill have another someday! Best hothatch by far.

I bought one of these as a 19th birthday present for myself in 89 it was an 87"D" cost £1000 to insure fully comp, was a great car.

Renault 11 Turbo facelift.

Not my car, but identical

I used my Nan's 9tl for a year and that was a surprisingly good car for a standard model.

I'd have to vote for the 309GTi altho i would be bias

as this is mine

Altho i bought it with a blown clutch and decided to rebuild it and i've never finished it so i never actually driven it YET

But i will one day

Get it done Meg :)

So I blink and we're up to three pages already!

Another opportunity to post a pic of my very sadly missed '89 Valver:

As everyone who knows anything knows....little bumpers rock

Although I had a mate with a Lancia Beta ES in the mid '80's and that was quite a competent, bigger, hatch.  Didn't look 'hot' but it went like stink!

Strada Abarth 130TC also gets my vote

I got offered one of these for £1250,it was a 1989 (G) 5 door in red,was a really tidy car, wish id bought it now but at the time 3 cars was enough for me & couldnt justify another car for my collection........you dont see many 309 GTI's around nowadays.

Another vote here for the Talbot Sunbeam Lotus.

My Dad is just looking after this one for me :D

I've driven an Astra GTE and an XR3 and the above is by far and away my favourite. Pug 205 GTi a very, very close second though I never had the pleasure of driving one.

Beautiful. The styling on these is so far ahead of their rivals it's untrue!

But...but....look at the size of those bumpers!  Ewwwww  :giggle:

[sorry Sparks, no offence  , just being :envy: coz you've still got one and I ain't

Someone at College had a Nova GSI with a Calibra 20v Turbo engine dropped in it.

It moved.  Was a nice pale blue, and IIRC was in Max Power or Fast Car magazine with Katie Price draped over it.

Another curve ball, on looks anyway (never owned one)

And a bit bigger

Manta GTE (albeit the Manta 400 saloon was better looking)

I'm a bit gutted that the Mk1 Clio 16v misses out on the 80's narrowly...  That was a fantastic motor - every panel was different apart from the doors and roof! Plus a brilliant rev happy motor. Then of course there's the Williams....! I had 6 Clio's in my time - 3 of which with 2 litre 16v conversions. I still have my last one tucked away.

Enough of this though.... it wasn't in the 80's!!

I have a Clio 16V Stainless steel exhaust (no cat) from the 90s sitting in my garage. Would fit the 1.7. I think It's a Scorpion one. Free to anyone who wants it
