Another curve ball, on looks anyway (never owned one)

HS2300 Chevette

And a bit bigger

Manta GTE (albeit the Manta 400 saloon was better looking)

I swapped a hooky Tag Heuer watch for a Manta GTE, was brilliant until I found out it had been used for a getaway car (hard story to share with the coppers)

Went like stink, thirsty though

  • Or maybe even.....a late 70's rs2000.

  • This is one not many people would think about, but they were a fun wee car back in the days....1981 Lotus talbot sunbeam.

  • My third car was a Fiesta Supersport   Not the fastest hatch by any means, with its 1.3 twin choke engine, but it is definitely up there with the best looking   I loved the stripes and tartan inte

Some may say this was a bit big to be a hot hatch but.

RS500 Cosworth.....

I'm a bit gutted that the Mk1 Clio 16v misses out on the 80's narrowly...  That was a fantastic motor - every panel was different apart from the doors and roof! Plus a brilliant rev happy motor. Then of course there's the Williams....! I had 6 Clio's in my time - 3 of which with 2 litre 16v conversions. I still have my last one tucked away.

Enough of this though.... it wasn't in the 80's!!

Feel free to start a 90s thread ;)

Shares quite a few lines with a Nova like the arches.

I learned to drive in 94 and our dream cars were the Nova GSi and the Nova TD.

A few of my mates picked up the 1.3 which was pretty nippy for the day with 75 throbbing horses.

I think the TD was the second fastest of the range?

BF Mazda 323 GTX :)

Although I had a mate with a Lancia Beta ES in the mid '80's and that was quite a competent, bigger, hatch.  Didn't look 'hot' but it went like stink!

I've never been in one of those, there's an old fella at work though who used to own one and the stories he tells us about it... well I think you needed to have deep pockets if his was a typical example!  Apparently it got to the stage where all he had to do to book it in to the garage was to dial the number and say "It's me, Lancia Beta". :D

But...but....look at the size of those bumpers! Ewwwww :giggle:

[sorry Sparks, no offence  , just being :envy: coz you've still got one and I ain't  ]

Yen, a little chunky perhaps but other aspects of the car don't seem to date the way other cars do IMO.

Strada Abarth 130TC also gets my vote

Not only did I have a Strada 130TC, but I also had a Lancia Beta Coupe 2.0. It rusted even faster than the Strada :D Every time I got in it, there was a new pile of little bits of electrical stuff on the carpet. It seemed to fall from under the dash, but didn't make any difference to the running of the car :D :D

Renault 5 gordini turbo, proper old school hot hatch..

Has to be the golf mk2 going. Great handling, awesome feel, and it only seemed to get better the harder you drove it!

Volvo 360GLT as an outside bet??

Alfa 33? The. 1.7 flat four had dellorto downdraught throttle bides factory fitted, proper little screamer.

Not sure you can have that many choices in a poll.

20 is the limit, so I'll just drop off any that I think are pointless like the metro.

Audi UR-Quattro

For me, 205 Gti

Uno turbo ie ?

Audi UR-Quattro

They're not a hatchback! :p Audi Coupe's had a boot until the typ-89. Bonus points to anyone who can open the boot on a typ-81 or typ-85 Audi Coupe or Quattro without being told where the lever is.

Take the AX GTI off and put the AX GT on. IIRC, the GTI didn't come out til the 90's and was slower than the carb'd GT (which I had briefly).

Mk2 Scirocco? Granted, most weren't particularly hot. but you can't get more 80's than a wedge with spoilers stuck to it.

Had one of the last maki 1800 cc Golf GTIs , great car crap brakes! mk2. golf GTIs not so raw but had brakes, 16 v version fairly interesting I owned 3 in all. Fiesta Xr2 back of bolts, XR3 not as competent as GTIs turbo version hard and rough. My son and I also ran two Corolla GTIs for huge mileages, bit characterless, loads of kit, uber reliable and uber expensive when they did wear. There was a short bar with a rose joint at each end in the back suspension, I think they were about £109 in the late eighties.

I drove a lot of hot hatches but the Golf was easiest to live with.

Has anyone mentioned the Scimitar Gte! That's what I changed for the first Golf. Three litre, overdrive in second, third and fourth, fabulous handling ( better than a Capri I ran later) and 28mpg.

Carolla ae86...not sure if its a hatch though

typ-89. Bonus points to anyone who can open the boot on a typ-81 or typ-85 Audi Coupe or Quattro without being told where the lever is.

Is that the one with the release lever for the boot in the middle of the slam panel under the bonnet?
