Weight Saving

If that's had 400kg removed, I'm a chinaman!   :D

I was trying to be a bit more diplomatic. ;)

Herro Jason. Flied lice for one?

Has it affected the handling much? I remember reading a top gear mag where they tested a car standard and stripped out (207 gti)

Strangely the standard car was quicker around a track.

Straight line though I'm sure it's quick

Like my Fabia at How Fast 1.

Took all the seats and spare wheel out and it just wanted to drift everywhere... :D

When I see proof of the 400kg claim!  :D

400kg's

Thats like 4 of me removed :o

Has he removed the engine?

A mate of mine from Scotland used to have a CRX that was stripped out, cut most of the dash off aswell as having no carpet etc and had just the one winder between the drivers and passenger windows. He drove it as a daily aswell and made the 7hr drive from near Glasgow to Silverstone in it a couple of times and took it on track. Believe he managed a 13.1 !/4mile in it. at Crail, he loved that car and regretted getting rid of it.

I see this car at a meet on the same night as sharpyy did it was awful but each to there own it literally had 2 bucket seats  gearstick and steering wheel ok ott maybe but you get the idea lol it even had quick release front bumper 2 hinge type things one either side of the car honest it was something else haha

I'd just put the engine in my mk1 Golf. Stupidly fast whilst still looking cool.

Still, I say the entire interior including carpets, trims, heater blower, etc will be unlikely to even weigh 200kg, let alone 400.  400 requires serious metal removal.

lots there he has left in too, looks like the sound deadening pads are still inside the doors along with the door side impact bars etc, the fabia seats do weigh a fair bit along with the carpets and underlay stuff but i don't think there is 400kg there, maybe if he has removed every ounce of the rubber underseal underneath the car and in the arches etc it might be more believable, I don't think perspex saves much weight itself over the glass as the glass is quite thin,it's the winders that add the weight really.

Must weigh mine and see if it is heavier than a std vrs or not lol.

Without getting into how much weight is actually gone, who cares what he does to his car? Mine while not gone as far as this is reasonably stripped out, I still enjoy it, doesnt mean he or I are knobs or any other name you wanna call him, just means we enjoy different things.

There is a bloke at work who until he recently had a child, stripped out his cars just because he enjoyed the noise and that, he said it made it more of a event driving to work and back hearing every stone bounce under the car :D The last car he had was a Omega, he managed to dump a huge amount of weight out of it (being a bit of a barge to start with) and was pretty quick!

Oh, I'm not being too anti his choice of stripping out, but you don't hear me claiming my car is a 400bhp TDI, because I know it isn't - like the 400bhp weight loss program of this car :D  I have probably shed no more than 50kg from inside mine - back seats, carpet wad layer - battery move is a "redistribution" only  :D  Everything else remains, and shall remain.

^ then you have bigger wheels and tyres

Heavier brakes

Anti roll bar im guessing

Strut brace?

Large intercooler

Bigger heavier turbo / manifold!

I doubt you have lost any weight at all :) possibly made it heavier

What happens when he wants to sell the car? Good luck putting it all back together.

I think the 400Kg claim is realistic.

Seats, airbox, carpet, soundproofing, door motors, internal door panels and regulators, doorcards, dash plastics, speakers, all the wiring from the stuff you don't need, different exhaust, lighter wheels, lighter brakes, glass replaced with lexan (or even thinner glass), race battery, decat,  carbon body panels, etc etc etc would all add up very quickly.

I stripped out a MK4 golf a few years ago and I would say I easily managed to get rid of 250 - 300Kgs without even touching the bodywork or doing any radical running gear or exhaust mods to make it lighter.

I fancy having a crack at this...  to see how much you can save. :giggle:

pretty much impossible To go lighter on brakes unless you go for ceramics, and I highly doubt he has them on a Fabia lol. Bigger brakes most of the time means heavier

Even lifting out the seats, airbags, 4 internal door panels with speakers and clearing your entire boot compartment will surprise you how much weight you can get rid of just by doing that.

Yes it's very difficult to go lighter on brakes but not impossible you can get lighter calipers and use the same size standard discs.

Alternatively you can take the approach which a lot of straight line cars go for which is to basically downgrade.  The kerb weight of the car dramatically affects the braking force needed to stop it.  I'll guess weights here.  Take a fabia stripped out (1000kgs) and a standard fabia (1350kgs)and lets assume you have the same size 288mm brakes on each.  The stripped out car will stop long long before the standard one so in theory you could actually use smaller brakes and get away with it.

With a fabia obviously the standard brakes aren't very big to start with though so going down in size or weight isn't as easy.

Lighter wheels are much easier to sort out.

Bigger brakes aren't heavier, if you run a fully floating disc with an alloy bell with alloy caliper brackets along with some alloy calipers you are saving a massive amount over the std items. IMO ceramic discs are heavier than an alloy bell disc by a large amount
