retro fitting headlight washers

Featured Replies

Has anyone fitted oem headlights washer jets to a fabia vrs?

What work is involved? Is there a separate relay for them or is it a different relay to the standard wiper relay like in the mk4 golfs?

Any help appreciated

Is it really worth it? Would imagine (with no experience mind you) the effort would out way the results

I'm about to start it on the GFs car.

Lamboluke, it's a legal requirement over here if you have xenon headlights.

Larger washer bottle, pressure canisters and jets, extra pump, washer jet covers, few bits of pipe, bit of wiring, and that's about it.

Apparently the washer jet bumper is different and has brackets on but I'm just going to make brackets and attach them behind or to the front panel carrier.

All in it would probably cost about £150.  Or about £75 if you can find the bits in a scrap yard.

Thanks Baz.

Do you know what extra wiring is involved? When I fitted them to my mondeo I just tapped into the windscreen washer pump wiring for power but they came on every time you sprayed the window. On that the washers bolted to the front crash member.

If it's the same as the MK4 golf it should be just 2 wires. One from the pump to an earth and the other to a pin on the wash wipe relay. But i'll check elsawin here shortly. If you would be happy enough with them working with the other pump you could do that trick the same as the mondeo too.

Elsawin checked (even though I used the diagram from a 2006 polo 9n3).

Pump:

pin 1 - 2.5 brown wire to earth

pin 2 - 2.5 white/black wire - connects to relay point 8/87 (via a 3 pin connector - T3a/1)

Relay:

6/85 - 0.5 lilac to T18b/14 in onboard supply control unit?

2/30 - 2.5 red/yellow to fuse 52

8/87 - 2.5 white/black to washer pump

4/86 - 0.5 brown to earth

The light switch connection is as follows.

E1/11 - 0.5 white to T8c/1 on onboard supply control unit?

Pump:

pin 1 - 2.5 brown wire to earth

pin 2 - 2.5 white/black wire - connects to relay point 8/87 (via a 3 pin connector - T3a/1)

Admin can this be sorted out? What's the problem with the text editor?

Sometimes it just foes that, I've never figured out why

Finally picked up a bumper with washer jets and got them plumbed and wired up.

Ran one wire from the relay board out to the washer bottle via the grommet at the back of the glove box.

Everything else was done inside. I got some connection's from a scrap car for the fuse box, light switch and ccm.

2 big connections needed for the fuse box. 2 for the ccm and 1 for the light switch.

Wiring is as Baz said above. Pin 85 on the relay went to pin 14 on the 18 pin connector marked XS2 on the ccm.

Pin 11 on the light switch to pin 1 on the 6 pin connector marked XS1 on ccm
