Is DAB really any good and worth the money if not standard?

I agree with the above comments entirely. When DAB first came out it was a revelation. Loads and loads of good channels in glorious quality. Now, patchy reception to get inferior sound quality and the number of stations has plummeted. Mine is now on FM by default.

I like DAB. As others have said Radio 5 is much better than old woolly AM and in the NW we can now listen to Absolute Radio more clearly. Loads of extra channels to listen to too.The only downside is we live on the edge on Radio Merseyside coverage which we listen to occasionally - we lose DAB coverage several miles before FM coverage so we have to band switch. Other music formats may be higher bit rate and a better frequency range but many years listening to rock music means my ears are now low bit rate so I am not bothered and can't really tell the difference.
