Heated seats and MPG

Featured Replies

I know it will affect it like anything else electrical, rear heated screen, A/C, radio ect but does anyone know roughly much it affects MPG by running the heated seats?

I'm a very cold person and have mine on 99% of the time, the i10 is a push in switch so they will come back on when you start the car up (unlike most you have to repress the button) so mine are left on pretty much all the time. Bad I know!

I'm P/Xing the i10 for a Picanto and they aren't an option on the Kia so I will be without..I wonder if it's for the best?!

Cant see fuel consumption being affected that much, probably less than not anticipating road ahead and using sudden braking/acceleration

Sod the consumption, my blood is thinning as I get older so can't beat a toasty bum

Spec for replacement lease car for my Superb includes heated seats

Yes, you will miss them!

Well the Clio doesn't have them nor the company car and I don't miss them so I'm sure I'll live

Lidl have heated and vibrating massage seat covers at the moment, £15 or thereabouts and plug into the ciggy lighter.

I know how you women like the heat, I'm not commenting on the other feature ;-)

You could always do what this guy did

EDIT: I should point out that the additional weight and aero drag from the flue probably *will* have a big effect on MPG.

Ha well in most previous cars come the winter months I have been known to carry a hot water round with me!

Tbh the spec of the Picanto in comparison to the i10 is loads better, just minus the bum warmers, I'm sure I can live with that ha

God dam it..means I need to change my name again..humph

Heated seats won't draw much more than 10 amps of current apiece, so that 120 Watts of power each, so less than a quarter of a Kilowatt in total.  You can equate that to the engine power output (1 Hp is 740 Watts) and you'll see that the seats use a quite small amount of power.

Using the heated seats takes no more power and thus uses no more fuel than driving with your dipped headlamps on.
