New exhaust needed and other modifications / tuning

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have an 04 plate Skoda Octavia VRS 20V 1.8T Petrol.  My exhaust is on its way out and I need to purchase a new one at some point over the next 3 to 6 months and I don't just want the standard one.

At the same time I will probably get it remapped and a new air filter as I want to see how much talk I can get out of it.

Any suggestions are welcome, what you would recommend as well as what you would avoid!  I am not very knowledgable about cars and whats under the bonnet but would like to learn more and have to start somewhere!

Looking forward to hearing any feedback.

Thanks,

Mark

Try a search in the Mk 1 forum, there's a wealth of info on mods for the 1.8 20v engine there :) (link below)

For the exhaust, the component that causes the biggest restriction in the catalytic converter, so you could consider replacing it with a high-flow sports version or removing it completely and replacing with a straight-through pipe.  When looking at exhausts you'll see some described as "cat back" and others as "turbo back".

Cat back might give a nice noise and a better look, but will do little for performance.  The turbo back exhausts are more expensive and full length.  Depends on your budget too though.  The biggest performance increase will be a remap, but if you done the exhaust and air filter first, you could potentially go straight to a stage 2 remap.
