question regarding engine ?

Featured Replies

hi all

basically picked up a 2011 plate vrs 2.0 tfsi with about 14-15000 miles on the engine pics will be up asap. i know this question has been asked loads of times and have tried to source an answer out but i was wondering if my car is belt or chain ? as i asked the skoda technician and he said's its chain. but looking at ecp under engine part's there is cambelt kit there but also chain. i know i ain't got to worry about it for a long while but i don't fancy the belt going and have a nasty bill with it just because they said one thing but then i get told afterwards another.

thanks all

For a 2011 car it's likely to be a chain, and it is probably a TSi rather than a TFSI, but fear not the the chains on the Tsi are also known to let go (I jest, this is not that common)

if its 2011 its chain driven. it will be a TSI not TFSI.

i take it the tsi is the latest engine ?? what change's were made from the tfsi to the tsi besides the badge lol ? also im guessing besides the alternator belt and water pump there is nothing else to worry about ?

Yes TSI is the newer engine.

You may want to check the post pinned at the top of this section...

awesome and i did see the pinned section at the top and it seems that one of the issues is the tensioner. mine being an 11 plate im guessing its ok or no ?? otherwise how would i be able to get that sorted ??

The tensioner has been modified several times - i'm not sure when the most recent revision was made, its somewhere in the pined thread. I had the dealer change mine to the most up to date model when i bought the car a couple of months ago (I also have a TSI VRS).

Looks like you have come from a mk1 vrs - the same route i have taken! mk2 FL is so much more refined and luxurious compared to the mk1, get out there and enjoy it rather than worrying about the tensioner!

ah kk next service its due can ask that and i have indeed mate and totally agree. when i took it for a test drive i instantly fell in love its basically everything i want in a car and more. just taking a while to adjust with regards to having a loudish exhaust to a quiet car and of course things like brakes and clutch as i almost went threw the windscreen the first time i touched the brakes as my old vrs felt like it had drum brakes and the clutch was abit passed it lol

I presume thats an aftermarket exhaust?
