The wife's Mazda 2 detailed and Mazda scratched it today

Featured Replies

The wife and I did her car today after taking it to Mazda for a courtesy firmware upgrade and health check.

Only to find they have left one hell of a scratch on the bonnet.

I'm not happy as you can imagine.

So I called them right away, and all the service department had gone home so I now have to wait till Monday to find out if they will repair it for free. The only problem is it's my word against there's.

I knew I shouldn't have let them give it a courtesy clean, but the wife insisted.

Here's a few pics of the car wearing collinite 845 and of course the one and only sonax BSD

And here's the scratch, it's a little difficult to see as it started raining but it's at the top in an arch shape

You know what is the worst part? I've commented on that thread only last week and said I never let them clean my car.

I feel so stupid! Broke my own rule..

Live and learn my friend, live and learn.

How deep is the scratch? Is it finger nail catching if you gently run your nail down it, as tfrom the picture it doesn't look bad or deep. By all means bring it to there attention but if you can sort it yourself rather than have a 'sponge monkey' do it as they'll likely compound it, apply a filler polish and then stick a load of silicone over it which at first it'll will look great then as the silicone leaches down the paintwork and the fillers break down in the sun and rain you may notice an ever so slight colour difference.

If you want to give it a go yourself let me know and I'll send you a couple of things for you to use if you haven't any yourself.

It's not deep, I can't get a finger nail in it. I think it will polish out, but I'm so annoyed I let it happen.

Thank you very much for the offer of help. I will try with the dealer and may have a go myself before hand.

Again thank you Svend I will let you know how I get on with it.

Carl.

No worries. I can send some Gtechniq P1 and a couple of odds and ends on monday if need be on next day delivery.

Before touching it yourself show them what has happened and voice your displeasure and that you want assurance that if they want your custom that they don't clean it ever again. Then take it home and do it. See if they will give your something as a freebie aka a please take this and leave before anyone sees and decides to go buy a car elsewhere.

Bring it over Carl

It will polish out in no time with my Rotary

Oh wow thanks chris, I'll do that if you don't mind.

Thank you!

Measure the paint, post depth, post which compound make of pad, end depth once panel has cooled.

Chasing a scratch at the cost of clear is always an owners choice.

Good luck.

Yes I know thanks mate.

I have a depth gauge and the appropriate pads and polish.

Jap paint is softer than VAG paint.................So I'll start with a light cut pad & polish and take it from there

Only asking as always interested.

I always find black honda paint entertaining, where as white audi is much more fun haha.

Looking forward to pics of work.

Matthew

Ive polished a couple of black Honda Civics..and a red one.

Very strange paint to work with..Goes soft very quickly when being worked

VAG is easy in comparison ...BMW paint...damned hard to do!!

Do you have an opinion on Jaguar paint, Chris?

Hard Mike

Ive polished my B in Laws XKR....Hard work

Thank you Chris. Was great to meet you and thank you very much for getting rid of the scratch.

Amy is very impressed!

Wow fast work! From 'oh no' to very impressed!

You know what is the worst part? I've commented on that thread only last week and said I never let them clean my car.

I feel so stupid! Broke my own rule..

I ONLY let anyone clean the inside!

But there s nothing stopping them scratching/dinging the bodywork whilst

in their workshop and car park :-(((((

Pics before + pics after!!!!

Sadly even with this - its hard to take detailed pics of everything!

Nice work by Chris - good to see it polished out Carl!

Great work Chris, nice result there for you Carl.

Your welcome Chris hope you like the purple monster cloth.

Carl - did you get anywhere with the dealer on this - or have you put it to bed?

Such a nightmare. I printed off the DW sign-age to keep ready in the glovebox!

No I've left it, I couldn't be bothered chasing it up, with it just being my word against There's.

Beside I'm really happy with the job Chris did it's so much better than it was. You really have to look to find it now.

The sign is a good idea, I won't let it happen again.

Good result all round then. Good work Chris.

The member on DW who set up those hanging signs is j0hn on here - if there is enough interest on here, he perhaps do it again?
