Bio fuel

Featured Replies

Hi all,

It seems after professional diagnostic, my turbo is on its way out and is not worth having cleaned again! Could using bio fuel for the past year have caused this problem? The fuel was from a legal manufacturer of high quality... Any thoughts anyone?

Turbo in it's basic form is just an air compressor - I would think it more likely bio would cause injector/fuel pump etc problems.

My understanding of a turbo is it's life is more effected by using clean oil, letting the car warm up before using boost, letting idle for a couple of mins before switching off - and giving it some stick once a while to make sure the vanes open/close.

My mechanic uncle told me a couple of yrs back, along with a couple of other mechanics,

that the ethanol levels in bio-diesel are that much higher than dinosuar diesel that it tends to corrode pipework

and seals in older diesel engines.

i dunt know though if this may also have an effect on the turbo system, courtesy of the exhaust gases make up..

Cheers.

yes it simply does...the biodiesel as any fuel gets into oil during explosion, the oil lubes the turbo....and the mixture as a mineral combination isn't strong enough to sustain a hot turbo
