Maybe time to put the summer tyres back on

Featured Replies

Think it's time to remove my winters and put my summer wheels back on. If i remember correctly i think we had 2 frosty mornings and 2 foggy ones down in W.London this winter and i'm beginning to question my wisdom in investing in a set of these. Perhaps given the state of the Thames which is not to far from me i ought to start looking out for some Skoda flotation accesories which might be a better investment going forward..

But...temperatures have been consistently below 7C so I would wait until they get above that...so not yet

They will offer you more grip and are much better in the wet

^ agreed! I'm leaving mine on.

Agree they feel a bit more grippy in the wet, however the temp seems to have been around 9-10 c where i live. I dont live to far from Heathrow ( 3 miles) and all those Jet engines do have an affect on the temperatures..

The bad snow we had last time came in March!

So probably best to leave on.

Agreed - leave them on. It will get colder before it gets warmer..........

Good luck with the rising waters Gazman!

Snow forecast this week up north

I took my winters off at the start of jan,i will keep them & try them again next year if we get a proper winter.

For a few different reasons I never put my winters on this year.

Kind of glad I didn't as the temps when I have been driving have rarely below 7'C.

However, if they were on I wouldn't take them off till mid / late March

This was the 23rd March last year:

No-sir-ee, not yet...

3 degrees tonight driving to work, with snow forecast down to lower levels tomorrow.

They're still better in cool, wet conditions than the summer tyres, so even if the snow/frost/ice fails to appear I'll be keeping mine on until the temp' creeps into double-figures, and looks set to stay there.

Too early. Expect snow end feb / beginning of march.

Well i'll keep them on a bit longer then, but will definetly be surprised if this awful rain stops and then turns to cold and snow..

Big, fat, sticky flakes been falling here in G63 for the past hour, with the result that all is now white. And it's still snowing!

its snowing wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo i finally get to test these winter tyres that i would have never bought but the previous owner is adimant about, he didnt grasp me as the kind of man who pushed the vrs to the limit mind you.

The one's I have are my first and never sniffed snow either, would be good to hear your thoughts on these..

Who's a happy chappie then?????!!!!!

Not me I don't have winters :peek:

Snow falling in Perth right now, but not enough to worry about.

My journey to work this morning:

And looking out of the office window right now there is snow on my car and falling from the sky

I don't think so.   I just put 2 new Kumho KH21 Solus all weather on the front last Saturday, if ever a decision was vindicated!!

I cannot argue that winter tyres do work better than summer tyres. ive seen the test on stopping distances etc in a controlled environment and cannot argue with that

however

as It is I wouldn't bother my arse with them and I live in Scotland

the snow over the next few days might change my mind but not sure really

I drive quite spiritedly but safely on the road im never over my ability or dangerous. in terms of grip when pulling off and cornering they are better but not by much to be honest, even when cornering at 80 or 90 it isn't like night and day. they don't half squeal though when pushing on or trying to do a get the back out on roundabouts, even in the wet.

maybe its because I come from the world of bikes and treat cars as a bit boring but I just don't see the need for winter tyres unless you live in the middle of no where. adjust your driving to suit and you will be fine on summer tyres with lots of thread.

however if you have the money for a set and they feel they are for you then go for it. Ive been on bikes with **** tyres where I simple have no confidence and can barely ride it anywhere near as fast as I like due to confidence. IMO that is worth its weight in gold sometimes.

Been nice & sunny here last couple of days....... :giggle:

Try stopping on a 20 % hill on summers .Nothing but moor roads round here . I come from bikes also. I CYCLE to work now but cycle cross tyres will not fit this bike . An xc 60 in front of me wqs really struggling .

Well I'm glad you noticed some benefit's when driving at regular speeds, I have them now and will use them until the temp gets a little warmer, to be honest I never felt the need for them in the past as I don't really drive hard these days and was curious to know how different they felt in proper winter conditions..

the chap at my dads work has an m3 and lives up a hell of a hill, every year four by fours struggle to get up it when it snows yet he can motor up it in a m3 with winter tyres.

so they must work... im really hoping it snows heavier tonight I want to see how good they are

I have to concede coming back from Dumfries at the weekend in torrential rain and standing water they were faultless. very good at driving through standing water very little aquaplaning or cause for concern. I was rather impressed by them in that case but they are brand new so I dare say that a brand new set of uniroyals etc would be similar
