Powder Coating Cost

Featured Replies

Probably been covered 100's of times! Ha!

Been quoted £275 for all 4 wheels on my Fab Vrs:

Tyre removal.

Chemical dip.

Blasted.

Sanding/filling of scratches.

Choice of colours inc silver, anthracite, gun metal grey, black.

Tyres fitted.

Balanced.

This was on Poulton le Fylde industrial estate (as I was passing), but any recommendations around Blackpool/NW?

Is that a fair price or if not, can you point me in the direction of a decent powder coater nr me?

Cheers guys. ????

That seems a bit steep to be honest mate, I've been quoted £200 for exactly the same process and mine are 17's.

Also been quoted £200

CAS coatings in bradford have done a few of my wheels + charge £1 an inch for normal colours or £1.50 an inch for fancy colours.. u have to take tyres off but they do the rest ;)

I just paid £300 from The Wheel Specialist in Leeds for a total refurb of my Neptunes

Your nearest is in Manchester

http://www.thewheelspecialist.co.uk/locations/manchester/

...Better than new..You get what you pay for

My Winter Alloys were powdercoated black at Cas Coatings in Bradford...

Very good too for £16 each but not in the same league as TWS and I had to pay £50 to get the tyres removed and refitted

Thanks guys....appreciate the replies.

It does sound expensive, but the work looked very good. There was a set of Aston Martin wheels in the show room, waiting collection, so they must have a good reputation.

Will keep looking, but might also see if I can knock him down a bit for "cash".

Removing and fitting of tyres cost me £60.

Blasting and powder coating was £120 for normal colour and an extra £5 a wheel if you want clear coat.

£300 is very very expensive in my eyes lol. I know you get what you pay for but I got my last wheels powder coated by the same guys for £200 and they were an absolute top job, better than new like you said yourself.

When I had mine done I needed new tyres anyway.

Swapped my wheels to some spare ones I bought for £50.

Took the alloys to a tyre place and paid for the new tyres.

They removed the tyres and I took the wheels to get powder coated (£100 all in).

Then took the wheels back and they fitted the new tyres and swapped the wheel during this for me.

I got discount...Bear in mind 18" alloys and a special Black Chrome finish...hence the price

There are two main methods of refinishing an alloy wheel. The people who are going them for £20 each are simply powder coating them.

The more expensive process is to powder coat them then wet-spray paint them then lacquer them. You'll pay a minimum of £50 for that in my experience.

Not all wheel refurbishment is equal. And just because a wheel refinisher has a set of alloys for a fancy car in their showroom doesn't make them any better than a used car dealer with pictures of Ferrari's on the walls.

I have experienced the top end and the bottom end of the Wheel refurbishing market

You DO get what you pay for

Do you want them done up or better than new?

For me it was the only option.....I wanted them transformed and better than new, so was prepared to pay for that

For others, just repaired and back to standard might be their choice...as my winter alloys were

CAS coatings charge £1 an inch for normal colours or £1.50 an inch for fancy colours..   ;)

Does that mean I could get daniel junior fully painted for only £3? That's a right bargain!

On a serious note, heard great things from these people!

I've just paid £280 for 17's @ The Wheel Specialist in Nottingham.

shot blasted

sanded/filled

done in gun metal grey

chrome valves

tyres fitted

better than new quality and great service.

well worth the money in my eyes.

This is bang on :)

I've had my winter wheels done by City Powdercoaters in Brum for £20 a wheel, great job for the price.

But if you use a proper wheel refurb place like Pristine Alloys/Lepsons etc they are in a different league B)

Rang a powder coaters in Leyland & they can blast & paint the wheels for £35 each, but the tyres would have to be removed.

They only paint in silver or black though.

That's probably gonna cost me close to £200 in total I would have thought.

Mmmmm....decisions, decisions!

Only silver or black?  :wonder:

I would be staying away from them I think .

£300 is very very expensive in my eyes

I would find it very difficult to justify a £300 refurb although that price does include tyres being stripped and refitted and a 12 month guarantee.

I've got a set of 18s in with the Wheel Specialist at the moment too, they also did my CVRs and will be doing the TDs before they get sold.

CPC are absolutely the exception to the rule. They have no consistency in the quality of their work hence some is very good and some is grade A awful. I had two sets done, one which was kind of acceptable for £80 and one which was **** poor. On both occasions I had to take flap wheel to the centre bore in order to get the wheel back onto the hub. The second set hasn't been acid stripped or media blasted and the lacquer failed on 3 of the wheels with a fortnight.

Like you say though, you get a different result if you go somewhere proper.

The first 'good' refurb I had done was by Rimfurbish who are part of Rimstock plc and refurb wheels on the same line that the new wheels are painted.

I'm not trying to pry Chris but did you pay £300 after your discount was taken into account?

Yes

I can only speak from my experience but three sets done all excellent value for money :)

You will need to remove powdercoat from the face/centre bore from any powdercoaters I've seen do wheels, hence why they are generally cheaper than proper wheel refurbers.
