Vibratechnics yay or nay?

Alright geezers, I need to stop the engine moving about so much when it's under load in my felicia, I've just been looking at vibratechnics engine mountings and they seem like they fit the bill but I thought I'd ask the questions before I dust off the old credit card

just to clarify, my felicia has mk4 golf engine mountings (1.8T engine) so i guess this applies to octavia 1 owners too, I'm using oem style ones at the moment.

has anybody tried them? Reviews? Opinions? Is it a glorious waste of £250? Are there any alternatives?

I've got them fitted.

They increase engine vibration a bit,but they're well worth doing on any car with 300bhp+

It just depends on money really mate,ths mounts just won't clamp the motor like VT mounts!

It's not running anything like that power.

It won't need to make big power for the VT mounts to be a good upgrade,esp when you consider how old or worn the oem ones are!

They are going to make a lot of vibration on a motor that has not had any other bushing replaced with poly or the like. To us hardened folks that are used to it and have modded for power and chassis stiffness we tend to forget what std car feels like and how harsh mounts can be.

You will notice it massively IMO

 

I went with THS mounts that are std mounts with internal rubber replaced with thicker and harder material.

 

I even question those for you and your point of tune.

Drop them a line and tell them about your requirements. There's a contact page on their website. The MD, Phil Bentley, is very helpful and won't try and give you the hard sell. I'm going to give their road-spec dog bone bits a try as I currently have a Superpro, which I find rather soft.

 

I have their mounts on my Caterham and have seen mounts and bushes they've made for other cars. They are always well engineered, thought out and properly tested on rigs and cars, rather than just slapping a piece of harder poly in place of standard rubber.

@TeflonTom - would I be right in thinking you've got no dogbone mount - looks that from your pics ?

 

- just found a pic of your rear mount - could this be firmed up ?

^^ yes that's mine. Don't know how I could make it stiffer, i made that mounting myself, it uses a track control arm bush an from an mx5, I am going to re-work it slightly though so it's shorter and holds the engine slightly more upright by a few degrees.

I spoke to jim at jkm motor services today and he recommended me using ths mountings as mentioned above instead of vibratechnics ones, it's not a question of the state of tune, it's more to do with shoving a massive engine in a tiny space, it's not happy as it is, it squirms about a little too much under load

You could try a harder bush, Powerflex do a Black series bush for that fitment (the mx5 track control arm)

 

I suspect even harder still might be a good idea - eg taking a black series bush, drilling out the centre and making a larger billet centre for it

What's the shore rating of the black series bushes?

According to Powerflex:
 

Powerflex Black Series bushes are manufactured using a 95 Shore A compound to provide maximum control of chassis geometry.

This compound can be up to 80% more resistant to load than standard rubber and 25% stiffer than our purple performance material.

ah ok, that mx5 bush is shore 80 if i recall, so the black ones will be much harder.. must order some up today i think

Update on this.. THS no longer manufacture the engine mounts for a mk4 platform car. Been working on the other bits and the rear mounting too.
