octavia vs standard vrs

Featured Replies

just had a look and measure and now thinking not really worth the effort and money for an extra12 mm of disc each side for road use may just go for better discs and pads etc?

Alfie, man you really need to read your posts before you submit them.

WTF are you on about today?

EDIT: If you are talking about octy discs on the Fabia, then you need to check your maths too.

Fabia discs are 288mm standard, the Octys are 312mm...

You also get a more powerful caliper for your money.

Personally speaking its the best mod I've done to the car; as mine was already mapped when I got it.

i did my maths and i make it 12mm either side ie 288mm as opposed to 312mm diameter what did you make it lol ? and so you still think a worth it mod? thanks

and i understand some fab and octy calipers have same size pistons ie 54mm so is there much difference in power ? all advice appreciated

312mm brakes is one of the best things I have done to my Fabia.

Great upgrade ! I had problems using non oem pads though, brakes felt ok but wasn't wearing evenly on the disc. Soon as I used oem pads from TPS the brakes are now epic lol

330mm Porsche ones on mine :)

I'm using standard front brakes with Ferodo DS performance pads + brembo discs and 256mm rear brakes with oem pads and discs and they are a LOT better than my mates Ibiza cupra's AP's. Good discs and pads should do you unless your planning track days and big power

I have 312 fronts and 256 rear, stops faster and sharper and pads last longer.

Is it ironic that 'you're,' has been spelt incorrectly?

All you need is the caliper carriers

Your 288 calipers are the same as the 312 calipers (should be ATE)

If you look on ebay a guy sells discs / pads / carriers to do the conversion to 312mm

I think that's the joke lol

Just checking lol I thought I was missing something! It has been a long day.

So if you were changing your standard 16 inch wheels to 17 inch, would you consider that upgrade a half inch?

EDIT: I took your original post to be on each side of the car, not the disc. Though I did think that was an odd thing to say.

Don't forget that it's the extra travel you get with a bigger disc.

A 288mm disc has a circumference of around 904mm.

A 312mm disc has a circumference of around 980mm.

So for every revolution of the wheel you've got almost 10% more braking time of pad/disc contact in the same distance the wheel goes.

That's why, even without putting fancy calipers and pads in, the upgrade is well worth it.

didn't know This could be done ! You got a link mate?

It can only be done on some calipers - the ones in the fabia vrs needs a full caliper, carrier, disc and pad upgrade.

My old mk3 gold gti needed the carriers and discs a from 312 setup to upgrade.

No there note jase.

Octy 288 are but fabia are not.

Fabia has lucas callipers on front.

How do you get 12mm from 288-312? Thats 24 isnt it?

Best mod by far for me. Brake feel is better and a harder stop.

12mm either side of disc measured from centre of hub dohhh? equals 12mm either side eqauals 2 x 12 equals 24 lol

yeh but in all the discs are still 24mm bigger good god that is what people are trying to tell you !!

288 + 12 = 300. 288 + 24 = 312. Simpler maths really....

You dont measure the size of a circle from the centre of a hub, you measure its circumference.

As Billy said, mk4 golf and octavia calipers are the same in 288 form as 312 but the fabia ones are not, so you need the full kit.

You don't normally express an an "either side" or radius increase - It's an overall 24mm increase in disc diameter.  And they are better than 288s for sure.  You get larger pad / more contact area.

I have recently moved to 330mm discs from 323mm discs.  Whilst I only have 7mm bigger discs, the pad shape/size is much bigger, which is where the performance gain is had.
