Going to look at this tomorrow..... Advice?

Featured Replies

to be honest, as long as it has an engine thats working properly, and doesn't use oil, I would think it would be fine.

It should be perfect 3 1/2 year old car and a new engine with only 3,000 miles.

Same gearbox possibly through 2 engine changes,

& possibly done by the people that crack manifolds, do not replace the cataylitic converter, and can have your steering give up on you with just 1 engine change.

It needs priced according to what it is, a gamble.

There was a member selling a high spec Estate that was a bargain and somebody here has bought it,

it came with a Letter from Skoda saying it was repaired.

3 1/2 year old estates that have had no problems are available for under £10,000 from Garages.

this was before he got a new engine, then the fixes after that, exhaust then steering, then steering posts about handling like a boat,

but they say it was tyre pressures.

then traded in.

I wonder who bought this one!

?? Is it worth paying more to by from a Skoda Approved Used car Dealership??

he could do the "new" deal.... you know what you are getting then...

If you do new there is no deposit needed to get 0% PCP over 42 months, and you can get the 4th year warranty too. Just sayin' :)

sharkrider,

I agree,

and do it at some place that respect their customers not just when buying,

they can still get a profit and the customer gets a decent deal.

Yeah - they did the engine changes. Both of them.

Plus the mileage now shows as 27k now.

I think I'll leave that one at that.

I pushed it along to about 80 on a kick down overtake - and it just didn't take off like the red Vrs I tried last time - the speed increased fairly quickly - but my mapped Jetta is definitely quicker!!! Even my old man said so.

After chatting to old man - we both think the Octavia mk3 VRS is going to be a better bet for us - both size, mpg & long term. The Fabia is fine for us now. But in 3-4 years it will be too small. By then I'll have a teenager, a 10 year old, a 3 year old & a fully grown Labrador.

Good choice Polo6n1600i.

Did they offer the MK3 Octavia vRS in Race Blue they have. ?

There is a Red Diesel vRS mk3 DSG, under 4,000 13 plate,

advertised with Arnold Clark that could be under £17,000

Now your talking, Octy vRS estate, that should you alright for a few years.

The blue one sold 3 days ago. They have no Octavia VRS in Stock.

Don't want the DSG. I'll stick to a manual. Plus I like them in Red & black. Found a mk2 facelift in Yellow for like £9k. Loaded with spec and only 28k on the clock!!

Think it is going to be an Octavia Estate. VRS with as much spec as I can find. At least a mk2 (FL if possible)

Surprised to see a few ex-police ones for like £5000 or so.

Thing is if if spend £6000-£7000 on a petrol one and have a couple of £££ left to mod. Or spend £8000-£9000 on a diesel and just get a map, wheels, suspension & brakes. Most of the parts I have on my Jetta I could remove and refit to a mk2 Octavia in an afternoon. That would give me coilovers, 312mm brakes, arb kit, straight through exhaust, stereo, sub, speakers etc etc. plus I have a set of 8.5x18 et25 merc split rims at the moment

In an ideal world they would not be selling any cars with issues so hopefully it would be all sorted and fit for purpose by now. This is certainly a strong bargaining chip.

I picked mine up last night after engine replacement. It has done 8500 miles and is a 62 plate. Hopefully it is all sorted now but I think as I've got a good deal on it... £11000 for 62 plate with 6600 miles... I'm happy. Skoda are playing ball so far and seem to have good intentions at the moment... Just get the longest warranty you can for whichever one you go for.

These really are fantastic cars at the end of the day.

the mark III octy vRS would probably be a safer bet, I dont know about the new engine, but be aware the FL octy also has oil issues, just go to the octy section and read, people seem to think its just the fabia vRS, but I recently read a thread on there with an octy vRS eating 1 litre per 500 miles or something along those line, bear in mind my fabia vRS eats a litre every 6,000 miles, I wouldnt want hat particular octy ;)

basically, if second hand, be careful, contact previous owners ect ... if new, all should be good :)

edit: that blue one was cheap George! :)

Looking nationally (distance no object for the right car) and i've already found a Franchaised dealer selleing a 59 plate Superb 2.0 PD SE for £9595. or a 60 Plate Octavia VRS estate in Black 2.0CR 170 for £10495

Kind of makes the pricing of this Fabia seem a bit high. Plus with something bigger we wont have to change it in 3 years as we would have to do with the fabia! As much as I liked it and think its a great car - its just not going to do all the jobs we need it to do!

I'd say just on the basis it's on its third engine alone I wouldn't dream of paying over £10k for that car.

Sounds like you have decided a bigger car will suit your needs better but are unsure which to go for - Octy 2, Octy 3, superb etc.

Good luck with the hunt!

I called them this morning and told them how I felt about the actual car (great to drive, comfortable, jeckell & hyde performance) but felt a little small. had previously been told they had a demostrator available in blue - was going to ask about taking it on a 24hr test drive to see how we got on a family with it (and the DSG!) - but decided to drawn the line and look larger.

Found a Superb at Ingrams in Ayr for £9595 in a good spec. and also an independant trader selling a 59 plate Superb for £6500 (autotrader near Glenrothes) now i know it isnt franchaised dealer, but thats ok with me.

Only really worried that the Superb maybe too big for just me commuting 95% of the time!

The other option is buy an older bigger car like a Volvo 940 Turbo & stick with what we have for me to commute in (or buy a small econonomical petrol/diesel super min like a CitiGo - or VW UP) cant wait for the UP GT to come out!

For commuting the Superb will be great, especially if motorways are involved.

I use a Passat 2.0TDi for my commute, enough performance, 50+mpg, quite and refined with a great sound system.

As good as the Fabia is I wouldn't want to do a daily motorway commute in it. Too much wind and road noise.

Cheers

Lee

Superb wagon would work well and there's some good 2nd hand options around. Great all rounder.

If you're looking new/nearly new, the Mk3 wagon probably has pretty much the same space inside! Maybe looses a little in rear legroom etc, but not much.

I'd go try a Superb wagon and see what you reckon.
