Octavia RS engine types?

Featured Replies

Can anyone tell me if the RS has two different types of 1.8T engines installed in it?

I'm about to purchase a new RS in India, where the stock RS produces 150 bhp, and was thinking of sending the chip to Jabbasport for a remap, but someone who does remaps in India told me that the engine which is being installed in India should not be remapped to produce more than 190 Bhp as it's a slightly differnt engine than the one on european models.

although the guy in India has the settings to remap it to around 217-220 Bhp, he claims that a lot of changes will have to be made to the engine as it's not same engine which can be tuned to 200+ Bhp.

Can anyone give me some info on this? And also how can i check which model engine is installed so i can be sure if it can be safely remapped to 200+ Bhp or not.

The European spec Octavia 1.8T engine codes are:

AUQ - 180bhp - fitted to vRS

ARX - 150bhp - fitted to 4X4

AUM - 150bhp - fitted to standard FWD

All these engines have VVT (variable valve timing) and are DBW (drive by wire). They are all remappable to well over 200bhp and are virtually identical mechanically.

There is also a cable throttle non-VVT version - the AGU - which was the original 1.8T engine fitted to the Octavia. This too is remappable although not to the same figure as the more modern engines. It may well be that engine which is fitted in India since 190bhp is the sort of figure some UK tuners claim for it.

The AUQ needs 98RON petrol and the rest 95RON in European spec.

Thanks for the info. The RS in India is drive by wire as it has cruise control and i'm guessing that's that it should have d-b-w for cruise control.

I'm not sure if it's a VVT engine though. I'll try and find out.

It'll be a pity if it's not the AUQ engine though. I had my heart set on remapping it to 200+.... :(

by the way the badging on the car say vRS.Shouldnt it have the same engine as the vRS in Europe?

There is also just an Octavia 1.8T available in India. It's called the Rider Turbo.

What's the best way for me to find out if it is indeed the AUQ engine?is the engine code displayed somewhere?

Think yours is tuned down due to quality of fuel over there? Hence 150Bhp not 180Bhp

Im pretty sure they use the 150 bhp version for that reason. Not a de tuned 180 as such.

Is this ARX code engine specific to the 4x4 because of the 4wd and if so any explanation why?

There should be a label somewhere inside the front of your service manual, with the engine code, gearbox code, paint colour, upholstery colour, etc. If you can't find that, look in the spare wheel well - there should be another copy of the label there.

If all else fails, undo the four plastic "screws" holding the engine cover and lift it off. The code will be stamped on a lifting eye fixed on top of the engine.

Is car modifying popular in India? It'd be interesting to see some photos of some Indain modified cars.

So you missed the Peugeot Adverts then

as far as i know the 4x4 engine is only different in that it has slightly different mounting points for things due to the 4x4 transmission. but i could(and usually are) be wrong :o

The Indian vRS sold as the RS is the 150 Bhp 'AUM' engine. The engine code is displayed on the Service Booklet.

The AUQ needs 97RON petrol and the rest 95RON in European spec.

That's the same as the 150bhp Mk4 Golf 1.8T DBW engine so can be remapped to the same figures as the AUQ. As mentioned though the thing to watch is the fuel so you may need a remap with lower than normal timing settings.

well a lot of ppl get their cars modified in India. but very few go for performance mods. I guess that's the next thing as better cars come to India. Most of the cars modified are by the 20-22 age group and that too mostly Hyundai Accents. You seriously dont want to see pics of them.

But i'm seriously considering opening a performance mod shop here in Delhi...lots of scope. Anyone interested contact me

BTW brabus is in India and a lot ppl get their mercs modified

Octavia585:i'll be getting a lot of stuff imported into india. I have an anutomotive components manufacturing business in Delhi, so i'll be able to import a lot of stuff tagged as samples and evade customs ;) .

and yes high on my priority is a miltek exhaust. K&N filters are available in Delhi, so that's not a problem.

I would also be looking to import brakes upgrade once the warranty is over. I go thru brake pads very fast....every 15000 kms on my Honda city.

Maybe u and i can exchange notes on getting hold of mods in India.

I do know that the PSI deisel tunig box is available in Inida.

How are u hiding the chipped ECU from the service guys?

Hi Sam...you bet those service centres are full to the brim ! There is also a shortage of surveyors due to the huge number of claims and so the survey's are taking time. I will know by next week....since many parts would require replacement.

Another thought....since you are into auto parts....you should think of importing Skoda door mirrors since they are frequently stolen and cost Rs. 10,000/= each to replace !!!

I was gonna do the same but its 1.00am and raining. But i'm pretty sure mine says 95 or 98.

I've been running it on 95....

What did you find?

Viky: all the best in trying to get the car fixed. Give an update as soon as you know wat all went wrong.

As for the side door mirrors....tell me about it....i have had my Honda City's door mirrors stolen three times in five years. thankfully they just cost Rs.10,000/pair. I got so sick of it the last time i didn't even bother with insurance....and unfortunately the after market door mirrors are hardly worth bothering with.

One can always go to the chor bazaar in delhi and find them for 2000/pair....and most of the times one can find one's own mirrors. At least that's what i've heard.

HI Sam b and Viky. Nice to know there are others from India on Briskoda.

I happen to be the one doing the The Pete's Tuning Box (PSI) here in India and I wanted to share the good news that we have just been appointed the Sole Distributors of CUSTOM CODE here in India, so any of you guys need a remap, your welcome. The codes will be available through our dealers in MuMBAI, DELHI and other places from the end of this month. Infact James is going to be here in India to fine tune the code for Indian conditions. We are looking at around 200 BHP for the RS.

And yes we do have the Milltek exhaust. Again I have just taken their agency too.

Have fun and do you have a Pete's box on your 1.9TD or have you done a remap??

Rgds,

Peter

It is not the fault of the engine but the quality of our fuel and the ambient temperature. We will have a doable figure for you in 2 weeks time. And that too a CUSTOM CODE one.
