Superb Estate with 1.9TDI Engine ?

Featured Replies

For a start is there a model with this engine in it, without a DPF ?

And also is it the same size as a Passat estate ? I currently have a 60 plated 1.6CR fabia elegance and fancy something with more carrying capacity..... would this just be too much of a jump up in size ?

Is the Superb better value than an equal passat estate, oh and does it have that electronic parking brake which the interweb seems to say is a real pain ?

Ta.

Hi Hudson1,

Some of the 1.9 TDI's did have a DPF (I stand to be corrected on this one), you'd need to check the specific vehicle. With the DPF it's largely to do with the type of driving you do. Lot's of city commuting and short runs will hammer your DPF and in that case you'd be better off with a petrol engine. With long / motorway runs, it should generally be fine. Not too many complain about them really, and they have been steadily improved over the last few years. Regarding size, It would be a good bit bigger than the Passat estate and you would definitely notice the size difference coming from a Fabia into either one, but size isn't everything right?

No electronic parking brake to worry about, good old cable operated type in the Superb.

It would seem the Superbs are better value than the equivalent Passat, probably by a couple of grand give or take.

Best of luck,

Rob

As far as I am aware none of the estates have the 1.9l engine. Launch of the estate coincided with the launch of the 1.6l TDi engine which replaced the 1.9l.

The early Greenline estate had a 1.9 TDi (105 bhp IIRC)

The Superb is certainly big, especially when parking in a car park.... either the front or rear of the car will hang out of most parking bays,

Too big? not for me but your opinion may be different.

oh and I am 99% sure all MKII Superb diesels had a DPF.

Size.

I have both Superb FL and Passat B6 estates.

Whilst the Superb is longer, the passat is wider in the cabin, with a wider boot space and I can manage 3 infant/baby seats in the passat something I can't do in the Superb due to it being narrower.

Cheers.

Once you avoid the lower spec models you should get at least rear (if not front on higher spec) parking sensors which should help with parking.  They are a most really for the Superb,  You would notice a considerable difference going from a 1.6CR to the older (and very noisy!) technology engine (1.9) if you did manage to find one.  I find it interesting that the electronic parking brake hasn't made it across to the Superb.  Given that the technology used by Skoda is often  'tried and tested' first in the wider VW family, are they admitting that the parking brake is a disaster??

Cheers guys..... also considering a 1.9td Octavia (around 2008 ish), but i agree with the parking break, all i see are issues with it on the web...... what is wrong with a cable ?

Oh no issue with the noise of the 1.9..... i also have a Mk1 Fabia Elegance with this engine.

Skoda Superb Combi: rear hip room 1451 mm

VW Passat Variant: rear hip room 1491 mm

40mm not so big difference...on paper.

On Paper i agree, but in reality pushing those side seat out a little make a big difference. I was very surprised when I got the superb and found how narrow it was.

Not all. Mines a 2.0 without dpf. The PD engines, as far as I can see, didn't have it fitted. I believe it was introduced on the CR engines. I may be corrected of course.

There are currently just two of these with the 1.9TDi engines on Autotrader - no mention of DPF. With ref to my previous post.......I was clearly wrong, sorry if I misled anyone

Both ours are 1.9s 59 plate and 10 plate no DPF, word of warning if you get one, give it a hard hammering to clear it out before its mot they have lowered the pass from 3.00 to 1.50
