  • I noticed that too :-)Masses of room in Superb estate version (got power boot too). Saloon version is ok too, if dog is happy ... Lowering, wheels and a remap? Then u need the Superb V6 4x4 260bhp!

  • Good point!   Svend did me a favour and went to look at the silver one. I've been and seen the Russo one (i'm going back to look at it again on Saturday too) The mileage doesnt put me off & the

  • Had a vw Touran last time - hated it. No more people carriers for me. Will extend my search to estates as well.

Would have been a fun car to carry on with though! :)

OT slightly - is there a risk of tuning a c80k or 128k engine will result in damage given both the age of the engine and the mileage run for?

I guess the plan will be uprated clutch, turbo in the pipeline if anything was to fail?

As long as its been well looked after then the mileage shouldnt have any worse effects on it than a brand new engine. Plus the Engine is now settled and well run in. You may actually find it makes more power. I will be replacing the oil feed & return pipes to the turbo with new Darkside ones anyway, just as point of maintenance.

I did the clutch on my fabia to a Jabbasport SMF, the one on the jetta will ahndle more toqure anyway, so no need to upgrade it. If the Turbo goes then get an uprated one.

Just done a HPi check on the 09 plate Russo one, turns out to be a BMP engine code. Anything I should watch for?

  • Author

Other than oil pump failure that is - not looking good!!! Time to go back to the drawing board???!!!

Hmmm, I was a bit surprised when you said BKD, for this age/generation of car.

If the BMP is the engine also fitted to later Superb Mk1 PD140s, run a mile!  :x

I thought the BMP in the mk1 was a different design as the engine/gearbox orientation was different???

BMP was not used in the MK1, only the MK2. I think Wardy was suggesting it maybe, but its not.

Just checked ETKA, the diesel engines used in the Superb MK1 are:

AVB

AWX

AVF

BSS

BSV

BWW

BPZ

As you can see no BMP in sight, and one of those will be the Ill fated PD with oil drive problems.

BHW engine was the one in the passat/superb mk1 that had balance shaft issues. As far as ive read/found out - even though its a similar design engine the keyway is now 100mm long and not 75mm to spread the torque load better.

BMP was not used in the MK1, only the MK2. I think Wardy was suggesting it maybe, but its not.

Was seeking clarification on the engine code, that's all. BMP is not one I'm familiar with, hence the question.

Ok so where do I start:-

seller showed up 35 minutes late

My wife's car brokedown (doesn't instil confidence!!)

Couldn't find the keys

Couldn't unlock it with the key as battery was flat (oh I drove this a few days ago.....) - but it still sat in the same place as I saw it last time with the wheels at the same angle & I came to look at it 2 weeks ago!!!

3 out of 4 tyres are almost flat - 3 out of 4 tyres are the same make (roadkings!) the last one is a Sava. All 4 wheels damaged.

Finally the tyres are blown up and the engine started, it's handbrake is stuck on & you can't get 1st or 2nd without putting it into reverse or 6th. (He though I was trying to drive it like an automatic as you can only get 3rd or 4th easily) took it for a drive, a few knocks from the front end, plus loads of turbo whistle. Again problems getting gears.

Walked around it when we got back to the compound. Dents on p/s rear door, tailgate top, scratched bumper, both badges have worms, dent on bonnet, damaged paint on roof from bird mess, scratched screen, alcantara on back seat has been rubbed bare in 2 places, central armrest between front seats has bad tear marks in leather, the roof liner has a dirty mark & small nick in it

Bonnet catch still seized, looks like an oil/fuel leak behind the d/s headlight - front of fuel filter housing is very dirty, as is the a/c pipes and the chassis leg there is loads of oily dirt.

Tailgate trim still broken.

It's had an aftermarket parrot kit fitted badly

Had the phone button on the wheel, but no bluetooth module.

And I couldn't find a single positive thing for it other than it was a Skoda Superb for £6000. Time to keep looking.

Keep your chin up fella

The right car will come along soon and the wait will be worthwhile :)

Our problem is we still have £7100 outstanding on an old loan. Costs about £150 a month.

I have £3000 saved up, I own the Jetta outright.

So I need to either sell or trade in the Jetta. And then pay the difference upto £3000.

My father said to me I should get a new loan of £12500 pay off the £7100 leaving me with £5400 of the new loan, my £3000 & the jetta to sell/trade. So £8400 and a car to trade, should get me upto about £11000 to spend. But then my outgoings would be more like £240 a month over 5 years.

I could just do £10000, pay off £7000, leaving me with £6000 (£3000 out of the new loan & £3000 of my savings) plus the jetta. I've been offered £2400 from we buy any car, £3750 by a skoda dealers & upto £4500 by an independent dealer. That would give me between £8400-£10,500 to spend.

So much to sort before the baby comes in June - my head is starting to hurt!!!

Rotten luck mate. Would you consider a passat estate? Bit dull, I know, but if you're looking for a filler car that is big and tweakable, there is plenty of choice for diesel estates with the CR engine at about £8k privately.

I've thought of that before, but not something I'd like to be driving, bit bland!! Think the Superb is a bit more my style. Just going to keep looking

You'll find one eventually buddy. Chin up! :)

Appologies if this has already been asked but have you considered the Octy estate as the boot will be big enough for your dog plus you could well get a newer car with less miles than a Superb?

It has to take the dogs cage and a babies pram. Plus enough space for luggage when we go away.

Still looking today - found a twin door at an Evan's Halshaw for £8337 with only 50k on it. And there is the other early PD in Carlisle. So always other ones out there!! :-)
