dipstick tube

Featured Replies

How much is a new dipstick tube guys?

And how is it removed from the bottom?

Mate tell me about it.. the oldest bit will be the shell (or driver) lol everything else around it will be new :-o

About £4 ebay. The tube doesnt go all the way to the bottom. It joins a metal pipe half way down roughly. Expect a fight getting it off the metal section tho

GSF do them cheap to.

Yes just press in fitment but tight.

All the dipstick and tubes get brittle over time, as the engine heat causes this.

The new dipstick tubes and dipsticks are a more yellow colour.

you need to be quit firm pulling off old one and fitting new one

Just to add, if it's gone brittle be aware of the possibility of parts of it snapping off and falling down the metal tube into the engine when you try pulling it off.

Yeah this is a fear to be honest as its not in the best order... I snapped it with my elephant hands when changing the stat the other week. In a way I'm glad or else I my not have known for quite some time

P/N you want is 06A103663C

You can get the part cheap from main dealer or TPS same as Golf, Audi, Seat 1.8 etc so lot's of choice where to get it

I was told once that the tube is designed to break down in oil if theu snap off in holder, which is part of the reason they go brittle. Don't know if that's true tbh.

Bit of a catch 22 if it is true.

The dipstick tube is held in by the a metal bracket that is attached to the front of the intake manifold, so you would need to remove the front part of the engine cover first, and the little metal lug slots into a plastic groove on the dipstick tube, it just pushes on the metal tube on the front of the engine block, they are only about a fiver from the skoda dealer.

Back when i had a rover it was the actual dipstick that used to break, made from plastic. I once put a piece in my old engine oil and it sank. So at a guess if any bits fall into your sump, they will probably just rest on the bottom

I wasn't under the impression it is that hard a job to warrant a thread in tech section to be honest...

Everything is worthy of note.. Not everybody is handy with turning a spanner after all.

Valid point mate I will bare this in mind when I do the clutch and solid flywheel :-D

This has just happened to me too - got a stick and guide for £14 off ebay. The guy at the VAG garage said it needs doing, as if the seal is bust (think he's referring to the pipe part) there's an air leak- which gives incorrect info to the MAF sensor so your turbo and engine assumes there's more air than there is... so the car will run rich, etc.....sorta makes sense.

Not looking forward to replacing it though, sounds a mare
