1st Snowfoam

Featured Replies

As promised pic's of snowfoaming my Fabia for the 1st time.

Using the gun & pw was quite easy after reading other peoples posts, with how much snowfoam to put in the bottle for the best results.

I left it 20 mins before rinsing off with an open ended hose then washing with a lambswool mit.

Sorry for the size of pic's, still trying to get my head round uploading them on this site.

Just realised that tapping the pic resizes it to the whole page.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

It's always fun.

Once you have applied the snow foam, use a brush (or two, these are perfect for it http://www.envyvaleting.co.uk/products_info.asp?id=151 )

and work the Foam into the seals, around the lights, side indicators, mirror edges etc to help remove the crud.

Cheers mozzie, I feel another purchase coming on now.

Me to. You read my mind. Thanks.

I was going to ask what to use instead of a toothbrush to get around windscreens, lights, trim, etc.

As promised pic's of snowfoaming my Fabia for the 1st time.

Time to do your lorry

I've very nearly posted it for a just for a laugh mate

Good fun isn't it?

Don't forget to use the brushes under the reg plate lamps as well.

By the time you have brushed all of that, its time to PW it off.

If you want, you can spray under the arches and use something like this: http://www.envyvaleting.co.uk/products_info.asp?id=131 to clean the arches.

I'm looking at getting her 2 wash buckets to keep them in as well, ho, ho

Wow....you know how to treat a girl!! :giggle:

I really struggle to get the mixture right with this snowfoaming lark.

My bubbles don't cling as well as I'd like.

I have the CYC lance and use BH foam concentrate.

Any tips?

Bilt Hamber Auto Foam is not very clingy compared to others, but has generally more cleaning power

1" to 2" in a litre bottle.....top up with warm water and turn the knob fully to (-)

+1 for poor clinging properties on BH Auto Foam. Personally - not very impressed with it.

Almost disrespectful to call it a foam... certainly compared to others on the market.

I use Ultimate Finish product on the foam front! Awesome!

^^^

I won't be buying it again,

The main reason I picked it is it's bio degradeable and I have a gravel drive so anything

I use on the car soaks immediately into the ground. Mrs G would spaz if her trees went

a funny colour or whatever. Just need to find a different brand that won't harm the garden.

(And use up the last of the BH. I'm using it as a prewash at the mo but in a bucket.

It's not worth setting up all the kit when it runs off the car so easily)

You have to understand it to realise that its not like other snow foams

Some misperceptions there too in your postgrr666

It is fully biodegradable and pH Neutral

I doesnt cling long, because it doesnt need to....5 minutes max

Here is a description from the Bilt Hamber Website:

There is absolutely no point in using expensive waxes and sealants striving to achieve a perfect end finish if you don’t get the basics right at the outset. Most swirls and paint imperfections have to be addressed later on in the process because of poor detailing preparation and the effects of Foreign Object Damage (FOD) on paint (such as 'own goal' damage from grit and grime) having to be removed. However careful we all might strive to be, sometimes, we make mistakes and damage happens. So it makes sense to be as methodical and as careful as we can be, from the very first stages of the cleaning process, and not just at the end.

Bilt-Hamber’s auto-foam, is the result of extensive in-house research and development. auto-foam will reduce even further the possibility of damage to paintwork by presenting you with beautifully clear FOD free paint, ready for subsequent detailing.

Bilt-Hamber auto-foam is a new generation premium quality, foaming water-based pre wash treatment, designed to soak and saturate soiled vehicle paintwork prior to the application of vehicle shampoo and paint food. auto-foam is gentle too and is for use with all pressure washer foam lances. Applied at a typical PIR (Panel Impact Ratio) of 4%. auto-foam will panel dwell for typically 5 minutes. auto-foam is formulated specifically to offer maximum wetting it rinses easily too it is not designed as a superficial high foam product but as a functional material.

auto-foam is made with biodegradable compounds, is extraordinarily tough on soil and grime, yet harmless to paint, its non-caustic formulation ensures that even with regular use will not attack paint binders. Our hard working surfactants will attack and penetrate the hardest of road dirt and grime without the need for manual intervention. During the panel dwell period, auto-foam’s bubbles will systematically burst and move, encouraging our soaking and cleansing agents to start working. The effects of road grime are neutralised by them, by being bonded within our blend of surfactants, then lifted from painted surfaces and physically removed, minimising harm caused by swirling and marking during subsequent detailing. When its work has been done, auto-foam may be washed off in a conventional manner, leaving a well presented automotive surface, perfectly ready for further treatments. For excessively soiled surfaces, simply increase PIR and/or number of applications.

In reality a foam needs to run off the car to carry the dirt away with it, otherwise there's only a small difference between foaming and just blasting the car down with the hose.  I often find in winter a slightly weaker runnier foam can clean better and I prefer more cling in summer to break down bug splatter.

It's a balance between cling time on surface to breakdown contaminants, but also the surfactants should be lifting and encapsulating dirt and debris from the surface which ideally should run down to the floor.

In a roundabout way I am just saying super moussy clingy foam isn't the only determining factor of a good snow foam and by all accounts the BH stuff does a very good job, but as with many of their products, it does it in a very fuss free and not so showy way.

Your not using enough BH, 1" or 2" is really not enough at all.

Look at filling around 1/4 - 1/3 of the bottle then top with warm water.

And as Sparkley says.

Will being in a hard water area make much difference to washing a car?

Yes

You will benefit from a QD or purified water system to avoid water spotting
