New FL Skoda Yeti - Order Help

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Firstly, this is my first time posting on this forum so sincere apologies if this is an inappropriate (a) topic, or ( B) location to post this topic, but here goes.

At the end of last year, with great excitement I, my wife, and newborn son order our first family car; a new FL Yeti - sheer joy. I read all the reviews, both professional and consumer for months prior to ordering and the Yeti was an easy choice. Roll the clock forward until only a few weeks until delivery to the dealership and my job is in question. I therefore cannot go ahead in good conscience with the car purchase with the risk to my job and a mortgage to pay, especially with a young child.

The question is therefore this: Is anyone considering the purchase of a 1.2 TSI Elegance, and would be interested in the following model/specification shown below.

Please note that this is a genuine situation with a car due to be delivered to a UK main Skoda dealer in London.

The dealership will have the car in a few weeks, brand new, and unregistered (will be a 14-plate).

Base Information:

  • New 2013 F/L model
  • 1.2 TSI (Petrol)
  • Elegance Trim
  • Candy white
  • Anapurna alloys
  • Black leather interior

Extras:

  • Panoramic roof
  • Amundsen Sat nav
  • Park assist
  • Rear side airbags
  • Heated windscreen
  • Folding front seat
  • Isofix front seat
  • Electric seats
  • Heated washers
  • LED rear lights
  • Boot liner
  • Space saver wheel + kit
  • Lifeshine

Please, respond if you're interested, but genuine and serious interest only.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Have you talked to the dealer about this?

Hi Graham,  Yes, i've spoken to the dealer, but loss of deposit and possible further cost possible so they are not at a loss.  So very much hoping to find someone to 'replace me'.  It's a truly great deal for a potential buyer.

Any suggestions/help would be gratefully recieved!

This is a genuine post, member of another forum who has a problem and is trying to do the best to remedy his situation.

Must say the deal sounds good.

Thanks Wakev. Pretty stressed by this!

Can you pm me the dealer or let us know?

How do you pm on this site? Would be great to have a chat, by phone even

Hi Smudger, i've sent you a message, via your profile page.  Thanks.

Any money that would exchange hands here would be between the purchaser and the supplying dealer surely? Then the deposit returned to the op? I can't see them having trouble shifting a yeti, they are in high demand at present thy can't build them quick enough to fulfil orders so I feel the dealer is being a bit unreasonable about it.

Topic can stay in here for now, it will get the best exposure this way.

Tom, thanks so much.I'm not sure yet exactly what line the dealer will dig in with however I do agree with you. I think my best hope is to replace me with another purchaser as this should have zero impact on the dealer. Thanks again for the support. Not sure I'm going to sleep well tonight!

Was this ordered direct from the dealer or via a broker, as the 16% discount sounds like a typical broker discount?

If direct from dealer, just explain your circumstances and any decent dealer will refund your deposit (how much did you pay? - £500 is usual). If they won't, then go direct to Skoda UK to get their support. I had to cancel my FL order and had no trouble at all in getting a refund immediately.

Worst case scenario is that you loose your deposit, but better that, than commit to a car that you cannot afford. Also you mentioned that the dealer said you would loose your deposit and "other costs" -  that is rubbish as there are no "other" costs. They are just trying to scare you. Legally though, they are entitled to keep your deposit to cover "any costs" they may have entailed, but cannot add anything extra - that's why they take a reasonable deposit in the first place.

Also, I would imagine that the dealer would not be too concerned, as they could sell again at or near list and pocket the 16% discount they were giving you, as not everyone is savvy to negotiate a discount. I even paid (almost) list on my last Yeti (Urban), as it was available immediately, and even on my (cancelled) FL order could only manage £500 off, although I was taking advantage of the 0% finance on offer at the time, which somewhat weakens any price negotiation. Most Skoda dealers won't even discuss a discount and that's why I suspect this is a broker deal. If it is a broker deal and you paid them the deposit, then it may preclude any refund.

The only issue I can foresee is that you have specced a lot of extras that may not be to everyone's liking, as most new car (Yeti) customers like to choose their own extras. Having said that, like you, I specced £4k of extras, and still got deposit back.

Not sure how far off the build week is, but if not too close, the dealer could alter/reduce the extras, and have a nice new FL for their own stock, and not a demonstrator that they have to keep for 3 months before they can sell. That is what my dealer did on my cancelled order.

Don't worry as it's not the crime of the century to cancel an order (happens all the time for various reasons). And, as I have already stated - the worst that you could loose is your deposit. But whatever you do - do not sign anything (else).

Good luck and "sleep well"!

Andy

Andy, many thanks for the supportive words.

This wasn't a broker deal, rather quite savvy haggling on my part with the dealer. Assume I'd lose the deposit bit the dealer is talking about additional cost to cover any losses on getting shot of the vehicle, possibly by auction to another dealer. I've signed no finance papers, only the original order form

Then I strongly advise that you take this up with Skoda UK (08457 - 745745). I did this as a precaution, but in the end the dealer refunded my deposit without any intervention from Skoda UK.

There is no way that the dealer will "auction" it off to another dealer -  I think they are just putting pressure on you.

What deposit did you pay? I assume with a 16% discount there is no part exchange involved?

Thanks again Andy. No, no Px and cash purchase. I will try SUK as suggested.

I really appreciate you taking the time to post suggestions.

The RRP probably makes it obvious, but this is a DSG model.
