2nd exhaust pipe (motor warmer dedicated exhaust)

Featured Replies

Hi. Regarding my 2.0 diesel, 2010 Superb.

I have noticed on a few occasions lately that the dedicated exhaust pipe for the motor warmer (auxiliary heating I believe it is called in the manual) is pumping out smoke after I start up the car. I am referring to the small exhaust pipe under the cars engine, approximately placed under the passenger seats feet outside if the car. Not the main exhaust at the back of the car.

This happens even if I do not activate the auxiliary heating by the remote key fob.

The auxiliary heating is not set on a timer either.

I assume the auxiliary heating is running if this is pumping out exhaust fumes, or am I wrong? I'd prefer for it not to run!

It has been cold of late (winter, between -5 and +5'c). Is this something to do with it being active without me manually activating it?

Maybe it happens all the time, but I only notice on some days (e.g. frosty, non-windy days)

Recently I have not been using the auxiliary heating via the dedicated key fob as I've had a very weak battery and I heard that the auxiliary heating uses a lot of battery, and that this is no issue if you clock up many KMs after using it, but I only drive short distances these days, so I am choosing not to use it at all.

Any info. or advise on this welcomed. The manual does not give me any info. about this.
