Crazy satnav update disc price

Featured Replies

Spoke to my dealer today regarding a satnav map update and they offered it to me for the bargain price of £280. Needless to say I didn't get as far as asking if that was inclusive of VAT...

Personally I think that is profiteering, and it is the thick end of the price of a new Columbus itself!! £50, maybe up to £80, is fair enough, but £280??? Its £85 more than VWs full price for a disk.

It's no wonder Adam that people look "elsewhere". Like I did. Feel free to PM me

Any reason why the VW update can't be used?

There is no reason other than at £195, I still feel that to be very pricey..

Have to agree Adam.

With so many third party sat nav devices offering 'lifetime' updates to maps, the price of the Skoda / VAG updates is daylight robbery.

What also strikes me is that some people manage to get the dealer to update theirs for nothing and others, like you and me, get charged almost £300 for a map update.

If you take the total cost of ownership of the Columbus (pre-MIB which has three years free updates - now there's an idea!) then it is not just the £1500 factory option but £300 each year / year & a half when they bring out new discs (which in probably 90% of cases does't actually make any difference to the roads that you or I drive on regularly).

Don't think its just Skoda/VAG that charge the earth. When I had my Honda they wanted at least £200 for an update and from what I could tell from the forums nobody ever got a free update like some have here.
