1.2 TSI 105PS

Featured Replies

I am looking to buy a new Skoda, but I dont drive much so tdi would not be a good choice.

As for petrol engines, I am looking for economy the most but on the other hand I do not want to buy inadequate engine.

I guess 1.2 would with 4 passengers and a luggage could struggle but this scenario wont happen often. 90% of the time I will be alone in the car.

Are there any owners of 1.2 engine and what are you real life mpg figures?

Thanks!

Hi Toni,

I have a hatch with this engine. You definitely cannot set the ACC to 200 km/h and start tailgating the Porsche on the autobahn. :) But it is a nice little engine, a pleasent surprise. It is very quiet, has good fuel economy and can move the car quite well. If you have to slow down on the motorway or you have a heavy load with 2-3 passengers and go uphill, you should shift back to 5th gear... but other than that, no problems.

Consumption is 6.6 liters / 100 km for me @ 20% city driving in traffic jams, 80% motorway at 130 km/h. That is 43 MPG if I am not mistaken.

Hi Toni, i have had 1.2 tsi octavia mark 3 since sept 13 and have done 5000 miles. I cant tell you enough how much i love the car. I have taken the car to isle of skye (scotland) which has massive hills to climb. I had four passengers (including me) and the luggage. The car didn't struggle at all. On motorway i get around 58 mpg and local 50 mpg. I had an audi 1.9 tdi before which was good but this engine is different all together. So smooth and you cant tell if its a 1.2 engine. I would highly recommend it.

Personally if you dont drive alot the petrol wouldnt be a bad shout given it costs less to buy (as a cash buyer at least), petrok is slightly cheaper than diesel and economy wise on paper at least runs the diesels pretty close.

From my own experience whilst the small petrol turbos are very smooth and have go that completely belies their capacity they do still need to be worked quite hard to give their best performance; that would come at the detriment of fuel economy. Also whilst they cope with being loaded up the effect on fuel economy would be more noticible than with the equivalent diesel.

Had the PCP figures worked out better id have likely purchased a 1.4 TSi DSG instead of the 2.0 TDi manual I ended up plumping for but the benefit.of hindsight....the diesel is still slightly more muscular, doesnt need to be stirred so hard and will produce decent economy pretty much regardless of how its driven and how loaded up it is.

DPFs arent even a worry on these cars for low miler either.

Id say drive a petrol and a diesel and see which you like but if you are considering the 1.2 TSi dont entirely rule out the 1.6 TDi as I gather it is an excellent motor.

So far, for the first 600 kilometers, I have an average consumption of 6.3 l/100 km. A third of this was city driving, a third country roads (60-90 kph) and a third was hilly highways (120-140 kph). I haven't driven it very hard, but I have deliberately put some load on the engine to help with the break-in. I expect that if I try really hard to drive economically, I can approach the official figures, once the break-in is complete. On the other hand, when you put your foot on the accelerator, the consumtion can go up quite a bit, so it is very dependant on driving style.

For a short city trip (4 km) from a cold start, I got about 10 l/100 km.

So far, I am quite happy both with the performance and the economy.

We have also had a 1.2s since Sept 2013 and covered around 5,000 miles. Usually get around 44mpg on mixed commute and around 50mpg on motor way drives. We opted for the 1.2 after a full day test drive including a 120 miles or so trip down the M6. A couple of weeks ago we achieved 60mpg on a run from Preston to Birmingham ( actually on the way back - about 50mpg on the way there) I have no idea why it improved so much and I haven't had a long run since - at the moment I am putting it down to a blip. The S trim is also fine for us and didn't want to spend an extra £2k or so for a 1.4SE - we did add cruise control and reversing sensors though, both of which have been well worth the extra cost.

We have been very pleased with the car so far - I should add that we usually only have one or two people in the car and not much luggage.

My 2012 MK2 1.2TSi estate has been fine, even off on hols with 2 adults 3 kids and luggage, it dealt with the somerset hills without struggling.

I usually get 42 mpg running a mix of local shunts and 2-4  ~40 mile trips a month, with the run back from hols netting me 50mpg. The car has not yet reached 10k miles.

Thanks guys!

I havent excluded anything yet, including both 1.4 tsi (in case 1.2 would be to weak) and 1.6 tdi.

Price wise 1.4 tsi and 1.6 tdi cost pretty much the same, in which case buying a 1.4 instead of 1.6 would seem like a mistake to me :D

Also, 1.6 tsi cost 'only' 2000$ more than 1.2 tsi so its not that much of difference in the end.

Skoda don't do a 1.6 TSi do they ? the only 1.6 available in the UK is a diesel.

Best thing to do is get an extended test drive and see how it feels to you.

I'd say: get the 1.4tsi if you can afford it.

lovely engine, pulls so sweetly and theres plenty of torque when you need it.

if you want to save on fuel just drive it gently and it will reward you with great mpg. very quiet and smooth.

What grade of fuel are you using 95oct  or super petrol and if you have used both is the difference noticeable?

We just use unleaded from Morrisons where we fill up every time- it was really peculiar - it coincided with our mileage tipping over the 5,000 mile mark so I wondered if the car was set on a richer mixture for the first 5,000 miles for some reason - at the 60mph was mainly on motorways with few holdups and cruising at around 70mph - I suspect it was a blip in the computer as we have not got anywhere near that since, but then again we haven't been on a long motorway trip either. Earlier in that week I had topped up the oil with the Castrol Edge supplied with the car, but presumable the car was already using the same oil. Otherwise there was nothing different to my normal driving. Very odd.

You are right, its a spelling mistake, I meant 1.6TDI.
