I always liked the 107/Aygo/Ci.

Buzz box yes, but filled a place in the market quite admirably. Quite nippy and pleasing on the eye.

Mrs R had one for 18 months a few years ago and it proved to be totally reliable.

This new incarnation though.

Looks like a flamin' Micra, Dull dreary and downright boring.

Where's the French flair gone?

"le Fiat 500, Everyone is buying le Fiat 500, WE must make a Fiat 500".

I think Vauxhall had the same conversation 2yr ago and come up with the Adam.

Looks very meh, like all the current crop of Pugs.

Can't help but think their last design 'philosophy' with the big shark mouths that everyone hated has now been dialled out to the point of utter blandness. Why is it so hard to be interesting and not ugly these days?

I had thought the guppy look was down to EU pedestrian safety regs in some part.

I was very disappointed when I saw this.

The 107 was such a breath of fresh air when it came out in 2005 (?). Totally distinctive.

Yup. It's  a Peugeot Micra.

Ford went down the exact same road with the Ka and Focus  mk2.

Vibrant adventurous exciting designs, to boring numbed down dross in just one swipe of the drawing room pencil.

There is a new Renault Twingo coming out. Looks individual and rear engined...

Exactly. The Ford Ka was absolutely brilliant. A bit Marmite but you can't argue that Ford had a set of balls to release a car as 'different' as it was back then in 1997.

I bought one, and then when the Ford Puma came out bought one of them too. Ford were in a really good position back then...

Ford are in a better position now

Whether you like it or not the fiesta was the uk's biggest seller last year. Followed in 2nd by the focus.

Personally i detest ford cars but they must appeal to lots of people.

I thought the 107/1007 was ugly

Actually prefer this new 108 look although i would never buy one

The 106 gti was the best 8)

The 108/Adam look nothing like a 500. The only thing they have in common is the interchangeable colours and roofs etc.

and bonnet shape and the fact that they're all crap and the target market.

Basically the whole car. But apart from that, what did the Romans ever do for us? they have nothing in common.

I'm not talking sales volumes, I'm talking interesting and innovative design.

Being a little bit different, not following the crowd etc.

I don't deny the Fiesta is the best seller, it has every right to be. I'm sure the Focus is a good car too, but it is as dull as dishwater.

The Ka, Puma and MkI Focus were really fresh and brave, the latest run of Fords by comparison are not.

Ah yes, the fresh, bold boiled egg.

More like full of crap and rotten.

Who ever designed the Ka must have been eating breakfast at the time, ooh yes, an egg with wheels how nice!

Perhaps so but at least they were different instead of the usual drab.

How about the Ecosport? That's, ahem, 'different'

That's not different, it's just ugly.

I used to get laughed at for liking the looks of the Ka.

Did I actually give a stuff?

Correct....NO!

I thought it was a fine and bold design, inside and out.

Shame they didn't rust proof them properly.

Mark my words.

Puma Racing is going to be a future classic, in fact, values are already on the rise.

One of the finest well balanced looking cars of all time imo, and all based on the Fiesta including the dashboard.

Young Ree has got a new Fiesta, and imo it's the the only and  finest looking Ford amongst a family of gross munters.

Drives damned well too considering it's only a 1.0 3 pot

It sez it all when you consider they made the Mk1 Ka for a staggering 14 years (iirc) without anything other than tame trim changes.

I believe the Mk2 is due for change and complete replacement already, such has been the popularity of it <cough>

I don't know who designed the Mk1 Focus and Ka, but I presume he's left and been replaced by the artistically  challenged .

I quite like what Renault are producing in the design stakes btw.

Wouldn't have one due to dodgy electrics, but they do look the 'dogs' generally speaking

A mere fashion accessory. A handbag on wheels.

Dull as exceedingly dull ditch water to drive, with looks to match sadly imo.

For the first time ever last week, I had to park alongside a Fabia mk2.

It wasn't a vRS, just a bogo one, but the difference from behind was quite staggering IMO.

Mk2 looks just so high and narrow.

Let's hope they make amends with the mk3 shortly.

The fabia is primarily designed for trips to the supermarket

They wont make a wide low mk3 and they wont make a new vrs as the market isn't there for it

Well it certainly was there for the Mk1 wasn't it?

The new KA is a particularly disappointing effort from Ford when you consider it shares a hell of a lot of its underpinnings with the Fiat 500, which (Retro chic aside) is a lovely looking thing.
