Wired in my Dashcam

Featured Replies

Finally got round to wiring up a charger and cable for my dash cam in my Monte. Been running my dash cam without one since Christmas and was sick of the camera battery running out halfway through a trip! Thought I'd post some pictures up of it to help others.

Fuse tap in rear wiper fuse, with 12v socket stuck under fuse box and USB cable tied up.

Wire tucked under headlining and A-pillar trim, comes out behind rear view.

Not too happy about the cable arrangement at the bottom of the A-pillar here, but it doesn't move around and can't really be seen from the outside so I'll leave it for now.

By the way, my camera is a Mobius Actioncam.

Similar to my setup.

I used a fuse piggy back to a switched live and have run the socket behind the blanking plate at the side of the dash where it meets the door. Ran the wire under the headliner and down the a pillar behind trim on the edge that runs against the door not the windscreen. Can't see any wires.

I have a Transcend drivepro 200

^^^^^ drive pro very nice. Bit annoyed that the standard 12v dose not power down when the doors are locked. Got to do this now.

I take it you piggy back to slot 15 the sat nav fuse? What size fuse did you guys use.

Thanks

I used a 20 +15amp fuse, all I had at the time. I used the 2nd from the right on the bottom of the mini fuses.

Hmm, is this for dogging :peek:

If you don't have curtain airbags, the A pillar trim just pulls straight off and you can feed the cable behind it so its neater.

^^^^^yes, takes a bit of pulling but comes away nicely.

I've always tucked it behind the edge of A post trim along the edge of the rubber door seal rather than pull it off.

I just remove the a pillar and run it straight down to the fusebox

I do the same where the vehicle has curtain airbags. Its just neater to hide it completely, if I can.

As a small update to this, you'll notice that my 12v socket is mounted just under the fusebox attached by velcro that came with the camera. The velcro worked, but the sticky part on the back of the velcro didn't, so it fell off and has been hanging there for a while! Tried masking tape and blutac but neither worked. Was going to buy some strong double sided sticky tape but when I took my car into a dealer for it's service, someone in the dealer has hidden the 12v socket under the trim that it was originally stuck to, so it's completely hidden away. Still works though.

I fed the fuse wire up behind the dash and to the blanking point at the side of the dash facing the door. There is enough room in there for the 12v socket to sit out the way and the wire can be fed in from the a pillar from the dash cam. There is also an earthing point too.

I think I'm gonna do this soon!! as I cover about 550 miles a week on the M4... so it's only a matter of time!

I'm just investigating what is the best (not too expensive) camera to get!
