Spongy brake pedal

Featured Replies

Hi guys

After doing my wheel cylinder I bled my brakes using the two man wait till bubbles stop flowing method. Basically two days later I pulled the car out of the garage, the brakes were solid and then on the 3rd pump went to the floor, this keeps happening however I am losing brake fluid with no visible fluid leaks. Have I inverted the master cylinder seals and also am I likely to have caused damage to my servo if fluid has leaked in.

You cannot bleed the brakes properly unless you use a pressure bleeder on these cars, redo the job with an EZbleed or somesuch.

Also, the wheel cylinders sit at a fair angle to the horizontal if the back end of the car is jacked up with rear beam dangling.  Have a look at TMB's photo in post 10 of your previous thread. Air bubbles will not get out of the high end of the cylinders at this angle, as the bleed nipple is in the middle.

Borrowed an eezibleed today and bled the brakes, the pedal did exactly the same again. What is up with it?

When you removed the old wheel cylinder did you clamp the rubber flexi hose first to prevent air getting into the rest of the system?

Yeah! I did

The brake fluid must be going somewhere if you're losing it. Only thing I can think of is it's going inside the servo but surely you'd see it dripping past where the master cylinder is fixed to the servo? I dunno mate.

Are you still loosing fluid?

When you changed the wheel cylinder how well did you adjust up the rear shoes?

If they arnt adjusted up it will explain the spongey feel of the brake pedal.

Other than that, you still have air in the system.

The shoes were adjusted and I've double checked I can hear a hissing by the master cylinder so I'm pretty sure it's leaking from master into servo, will the servo be damaged? Fluid is being lost and I've just been out to check and it is damp with fluid by servo.

Thanks for all your help
