Mazda equivalent to Briskoda?

My next door neighbours have his & hers Mazda 6. His is the estate, hers the hatch. Both faultless as far as I can tell.

We'll see what time brings us.

@Hiskoda: not sure that I agree. There are manufacturers that put more into engineering and durability and reliability than others and Mazda has always been one. They don't need Ford and they will continue to be a genuine leftfield choice in my opinion: good engines, good build quality etc: I would not mind one.

As to forums I would stick here. I mean how many people here have stuck around after moving on from Skoda? I would guess quite a few!

Can't say I've ever heard of troublesome Mazdas of any kind save older rotary engine cars.    Generally the Mazdas come out top of reliability surveys.  I would have one but there range of models is not that large, I never found one that suits my needs.

Their 2.2 diesels had massive problems with the DPF pouring fuel into the oil during regeneration, leading to engine failures.

That was the 2.0d. The 2.2d still purges the DPF with fuel which ends up in the oil but isn't an issue, it's only an issue for fools who don't drive them correctly or buy them when only doing small mileage. With my car, In 11,000 miles since it's last service the oil level hasn't moved and there's been no DPF problems in 73k so far.

For me google thew up:

www.mx5oc.co.uk - From a first glance it seems faily active, and IIRC it's been referenced a few times on the danish Mazda forum I used to frequent.

www.clubmazda.co.uk - Design looks fishy, forum can't be viewed properly (at least without registering)

http://mazdaownersclub.co.uk/ - Looks pretty, but also looks pretty dead, considering the last news is from July '12

I'll definitely be staying here as I still have the Superb and, well, I quite like you lot.   Not you, obviously. :giggle:

I was only wondering if there was somewhere to get the kind of brand-specific knowledge that you get here.

You'll struggle, as I always have. For my model there's a reasonable following in the US which makes for a tedious forum but does give more technical content. The problem is that my engine is not available in the North American or Domestic Japanese market so options are limtied to Europe and SE Asia.

I'm not even sure that they have the Mazda 5 over there? It'd be too small surely?

I think it is on the road in the US, maybe not very common. They sell the 2 out there so the 5 should have its place. The 3 and 6 are reasonably popular.

But 2.0, 2.3 and 2.5 petrol engines will be where its at, not diesels so much although I think they do sell diesel models now.

That's ok, this is a 2.0 petrol.

Flat as a fart it is, too, compared to the 100bhp 1.9d Fabia!

My boss has a 10 plate 6 2.2 diesel that has died a death. Carbon build up in 2 of the injectors. Warranty company refusing to pay out and Mazda might be contributing...still a 4k plus bill. Put me right off. I believe its a ford engine though..

Nope, wish it was a ford engine but the 2.2 is mazda sown creation. How many miles has it done as mine is a 2.2 and they say new injectors are part if the service, I was thinking about skipping doing them.

Useful topic as I was going to ask the same question, I've been tempted by a 2010 Mazda6 with the 2.5 petrol engine as I don't do many miles at the moment and there seems to be few cars around the Octavia's size available in petrol.  However I can't seem to find a decent UK forum so it's hard to find simple stuff like whether it's possible to upgrade the stereo for USB  or not.

After much hunting I haven't been able to find particularly active Mazda forums, I've found some more active US forums but while the 6 shares a lot with its US counterpart there's quite a lot of differences as well unfortunately and the devil is often in the detail.

Just to be fair to Mazda re my boss Mazda 6..they have agreed to contribute towards the repair with the dealer paying the difference it seems. Fair play to both for what seems to be good customer service. As my boss said though, let's wait and see.

Can't help with the forums but having spent the last couple of days with my elm327 module I've found lots of references saying that it will work on Mazda's too.

ELM327 is an ODB module that you can connect to your laptop

You then have a choice of software to run, Forscan gives you a DTC reader and the ability to diagnose faults, it has a realtime scanner and allows you to track engine variables on the move (similar to VCDS).

The next piece of software that I'm starting to look at is Elmconfig, this software allows you to change things like, door locking when setting off etc, this is the config side of VCDS should you want to tinker.

There isn't a huge amount of info on these pieces of software so take your time and read up.
