A big power cable running from the battery to the boot. If you prise up the plastic on the door sills, there's usually a fair bit of room under there to route cables. Not sure how you get it through the bulkhead though...

Jason - with eBay the trick is to wait until the auction is nearly over before committing yourself to your maximum bid, despite what they tell you about "proxy bidding". OK sometimes you still get outbid, but at least you don't have to sweat for several days before losing in the last two minutes of the auction.

There should be a grommet or something on the passenger side footwell that you can stick it through :D

Then run it under the plastic side sills, and under the rear seats into the boot.

Earth point (one I used) is on the left side of the boot as you stand outside looking in - pull back the carpet by the rear speaker / light, and look for a stud on the body, with a plastic "crown" around it which holds the wires. There should already be 1 or 2 wires earthed to it - get yourself a crimp tool and stick an 'O' shaped plug on your earth lead, and add it to the stud.

Run the remote wire and audio leads down the other side of the car - sills and under the seat again.

Lastly - plan where everything is going to go, and really concentrate on how you're going to connect everything up!

Well, there were only 8 hours to go which wasn't long, and IF I do get out-bid I'm not really too fussed. I can divulge the bid was at

Hope you get it with no hassles!

Wouldn't it be quicker to mail order and have it in your hands tomorrow though? ;)

It's now at

Someone else put in a higher maximum amount than Jason then...?

True, Nick.

At this rate, J will be better off getting a new one with a warranty! ;)

You only need a warranty if something breaks though... ;)

With regard to the Kenwood though - it is only

Really? I didn't realise it was so cheap from new. The ebay auction claims its only a month old, still in the box, which is probably why its at

How are you planning on mounting the stuff? False floor? Screwed to the backs of the rear seats?

Any NEON?

I'd imagine that's got something to do with it. Also it is an entry level amp, if you spend an extra 20 quid you get one that has a high pass filter as well as a low pass one, and more power. An extra tenner on top of this gets you a touch more power. An extra 30 quid on this gets you a b*ll**k-load of power, and variable built-in high pass and low pass filters...

So you can see how it's easy to justify the extra money... :D

Rob.

Mine has a variable low-pass filter and level control, both on the amp.

As Rob says, if you pay more, you get more toys - although if its only ever going to be for powering the sub, you shouldn't need a high-pass filter or too many other bells and whistles - just need to have either a bridged or mono output...

No neon.

Not sure about fastening yet, I'm afraid. How does a false floor work then? (securely) Routing power is more of a concern.

True, you don't need many toys, but the extra power is useful. Shame it's like with anything though, you don't just get more of the same if you pay more, you get gizmos chucked on too...

Rob.

J - I managed to cut my false floor so that - once carpeted - it was a snug fit in the boot, and didn't need anything to hold it down!

If you wanted to be fancy, you could use the little metal hooks at the base of the boot to somehow secure everything, but that might be more trouble than its worth... :D

Alternatively, remember that velcro will probably work quite well!

I have a few bungees that currently strap things like bottles/map/etc to the side of my boot using those hooks... could a change of use be on the cards???? :D

I'd go for proper webbed straps, not ones designed to stretch!

I can see this little ICE experiment is going to be full of trials and tribulations... :D - How did you make a false floor? Out of what wood, and do you still have the exact measurements to save me time? - not too many Q's I hope...

Used MDF for the floor.

Speaker covering carpet from maplin. Spray adhesive and a proper staple gun from ScrewFix.com to hold it down. Cheap jigsaw to cut it out :)

Tape measure and a cardboard 'prototype' helped with cutting the MDF the right size...!
