Folding mirror problem - not stopping

Featured Replies

My right/passanger side mirror is not stopping when folding back/out. It just keeps going until it cant go any further. I have to fold them both back in, open the window, fold both back out, reach out and grab the mirror to make it stop in place.

It is not such a big issue since i normally don´t use this function and it can be avoided. But some times this happes when i start the car and it folds out by it self (from normal position).

So my question is if this is an easy fix? can i take it apart and fix it my self?.

If it´s not a easy fix can i remove something (fuse?) to make it stop folding?

No one encountered this except me!? i feel special! :)

I had this once, it was the day after I had cleaned the car and it was a frost overnight. Can't remember actually what I did to correct it but it stopped.

With both mirrors in normal position, I manually folded it in, then out again - did this a couple of times from fully folded to past normal position. I think the mirror had some how come off the catch mechanism, or was certainly slipping on it.

I'd get someone with VCDS to check if the car throws an error code concerning the mirror folding motors or something similiar.

If it doesn't, try Coops solution, check for the stop of the folding mechanism.

Hej "Jesse82"!

If you have a 2012 Skoda, then hurry back to the dealer before it runs out of warranty ... or even if you are unlucky enough to have passed the 24 months from new, argue for some goodwill ...

Just my 5 pence.

I have a 2012 but the warranty has run out last november. I talked to them about some other things that bothers me with the quality of the car such as the drivers doors sound like a old ford when i play music...dealers advice was to lower the bass. I told him "well, i guess i´m going to have to get used to a lower standard. It´s not a saab i´m driving". He studdered for a while and told me to make an appointment for a checkup (no, not a free one). Getting goodwill from VAG will be new....

I will try to fix this my self somehow!

Thanks!!

I did like coops told me but it did not work atleast not that way. I then did something and i don´t really know what since i was running from and back to the turn knob to make them fold out. I do not exactly know what i did but now they work. I think i held them in place while the motor was running and then folded them back in...

So you can fix them yourself!

Thanks!

Great news, saves a trip to the dealer at least.

Hello - bit of a bump but I experienced this very problem this morning with the passenger mirror's folded postion going out of whack.

I managed to position it manually for driving but resolved the problem by turning the mirror control to the 'fold in' position long enough for it to make a couple of squeaky/clicky noises (technical,eh?) which I believe was the mechanism getting itself back into position beneath the mirror housing. Then, folding the mirors back out, all was back to normal, thankfully.

I'm not sure whether the recent spell of cold weather has had anything to do with it - perhaps the mechanism freezing up/sticking - but I'm avoiding folding the mirrors in for the time being until the ambient temperature goes up a few degrees, just in case..
