How do I remove a mug mark?

Featured Replies

L&G.

I have had a moment of madness & senility all rolled into one....

I put my work mug full of tea on the dashboard for a few moments, then realised that I hadn't put the dashboard grip mat on there first to protect it.

Needless to say it's left a lovely double ring mark on the dashboard!  :wall:

Any ideas on how to remove the slight but noticeable impression that it's left! And before you say it I know I'm a complete dickhead for doing it.

Lol well you said it yourself ;)

I find that autoglym vinal and rubber care spray works well for something like that. Scratch that, I've just re-read your post, and it clicked about the IMPRESSION, dang that's unfortunate, not really sure the best method to remove it :(

Not a dent puller then?

Heat it with a hair dryer, may work.

it may well recover itself naturally once we get the decent weather and hot car interiors. I'd be wary of a hair dryer, the last thing you want to do is stretch it more, or worse melt the dash.

Can I see a picture of the damage?

Oh man that sucks sorry to hear it. Id probably look up a decent pro detailer or smart repairer to see if there is anything they can do to sort it.

tell you something that might work if you are careful....old fashioned black boot polish (the stuff you light up before you use it). I used this sparingly on my glovebox scratch and you honestly cant see the damage now (after lightly with my finger nail rubbing away the rough edges). May well serve to hide your dash mark?

It's the rings that you find on the bottom of the mug that's the problem more than anything, a perfect twin disc mark.

I really cannot believe how darn stupid a :swear:  mistake it was.  :(

How deep are the indentations?

Not very probably 0.5mm, but clearly visible.

I've used steam on both Mk1s and Mk2s to good effect. I've never tried it on a Mk3, but I can't see why it wouldn't work just as well.

Well...you can put 2 more rings and then you'll have an audi :-)

Sorry m8...I had to say it......I would wait for hotter weather before trying steam/hairdryer...

Just an update on this.

Luckily for me the recent warm weather seems to have removed the slight indentation that the mug left and there's now just a slight double ring mark remaining on the dash, no noticeable indentation left and I've been using the AutoGlym vinyl & rubber cleaning stuff and that's slowly but surely dulling & removing it, so hopefully by the end of the summer there should be no mark there at all.
