Pot hole! Damaged Pegasus.

Featured Replies

Aargh, the missus swerved into a pot hole after I warned her about it!! and now have a big flatted area on the inside of a 17" Pegasus. It was a big pot hole! The fitted ones could do with a refurb anyway after a few years of rubbing the odd kerb. In a dilemma whether to buy a new one for about 150 delivered and get the others refurbed, buy a set of four from eBay as there is a set of four on there now, although not in perfect cond, so could do with refurb themselves, or do i change them altogether for some different rims? I do like the Audi ttrs alloys....

should be able to claim on the local council for a replacement wheel?

i wouldnt count on it, i hit a unmarked speedbump where street light was also out, at 25mph and smashed sump and ended up doing terminal damage to my old bora, went through the proper channels and got sod all off my local council, they refused to accept responsibility. I met the claim handler at the site explained what happened, aswell as showed her pictures and receipts for all repairs that had been done to date and got a letter politely telling me to do one..

I did wonder If I could claim from the council. I will give them a call tomorrow. Can't hurt.

Getting harder and harder to get anything out of the councils these days. Their roads have been fooked by the recent weather and they are having to make do with less money every year as it is.

I wish you luck. No harm in trying!

Can't hurt at all and I feel your pain as I did something similar on a newly refurbed wheel. It looks dreadful even touched up.

Go out take picture of hole sharpish. Put something of known dimensions in the picture for scale (CD is a good one).

Put in an FOI to the Council requesting details of inspection schedules for that section of road, required repair times for a pothole, any reported potholes in that section and any repairs carried out. Restrict the information to the dates around your incident or you'll get stuff from years back and it'll take longer.

You will only get money from the Council if -

1 - The road was not inspected to schedule or

2 - The pothole when found or reported, was not fixed within the required time period.

The Council will get away with having the pot hole by putting up up a pothole sign or a cone.

Good info on here.good tip measure and photograph hole especially depth. Then make enquiries with people who live very near the hole find out how long it's been like that. get written statement from them. Then approach council find out when ther last inspection was in writing. If it was inspected after the date your evidence shows it was there, you have them by the short and curls, threaten soliciter and they will pay up. If the hole appeared after there inspection you are screwed. To me it's all wrong if there's a hole it should be there responsibility no matter when it appears. The way it is they just leave the things until somebody claims it's cheaper, to hell with the poor M/C rider or pedal cycle rider who could easily kill themselves. On this same subject look how many pedestrian crossing markings are worn away rendering them illegal, if somebody gets killed on one the driver has a get out off jail card courtesy of the lack off markings, guess who would end up paying, yes you have guessed it you and I. This very short sighted view on road safety will cost a hundred times more in the long run.
