So this was strange: Faulty Heated Screen

Featured Replies

So this morning hit Max demist button (always does the trick) and this happens. Didn't get a picture, but initially got a PERFECT 50%:50% split between demisted screen and misty. Looked as though the heated screen was kaput, until I realised it wasn't switched on! I guess the car can intelligently switch air around the car (although not move vents like some can). Hit the heated screen and was gone in seconds!

See pic attached:

NB: This isn't a fault, just me getting used to the car. I've also had a check headlight error this morning (erroneous) and the sound generator rattle in sport from low revs. But ALL have resolved and only happened ONCE. I'm going with the "my car doesn't want to be left out" stance, and have decided it's trying out the main niggles to see which one it wants to adopt and as much as anything is getting used to being used by me!  I freaking love this car! (Not sarcasm).. Driving anywhere is a joy and there is never a dull moment, even when stuck in traffic at the moment!

Great. Checked screen this am and only the left hand side gets warm with heated screen on. :(

Looks like a duff screen to me :(

Yup. Off to the dealer next week then I guess.

Yep, the heated screen, when fitted, together with full blower should come on automatically when you hit the full de-mist button.

Yep mine does, as soon as I saw the OP's photo i knew there was a problem.

Thanks guys. Emailing dealer now. It seemed intermittent and now is just broken!

Can a mod perhaps rename the thread to faulty heated screen now? Heh.

Title edited for you, its either a failed screen or a dodgy wiring connection. From what I recall both halves are heated via separate feeds.

I wonder if this will turn out to be an issue like Ford have, where RHD cars suffer failing windscreens due to the wiper mechanism hitting the wiring.

Do you mean Max AC? Cause when I press that my heated windscreen doesn't come on and I have to press its own separate button. You got me thinking now...

when I press the 'MAX' button for screen demist my heated screen comes on automatically with it.

Does the windscreen button light up at the same time?

Does the windscreen button light up at the same time?

Yes

The heated screen is 2 elements as previously stated.

Both are powered at the same time but if you have an issue with one side then the other still works (as you are experiencing)

Interesting, as MAX demist function does NOT turn on the heated screen either..

Tudor M - does yours work on both halves as it sounds like I may have two problems now!

I'd have to say that achieving that kind of clear separation between one side and the other just through directing airflow would have been impressive.

Mine demists both halves of the screen at the same speed.

Right bit of a weird one, just been out to do a video of my heated screen coming when press the MAX button and guess what, it didn't come on!  I know for a fact that it has come on in the past like first thing in a moring so i'm thinking the outside temperature may be a factor as it's pretty nice out there to and quite mild..........

Just checked mine and its the same as yours, defo had the heated screen come on previously by just pressing max demist button so agree it must be linked to external temp as currently 8.5°C.

I just checked mine this evening and it doesn't start together with Max AC and it's 5.5 degrees outside. To be honest, the heated windscreen is so effective at defrosting/demisting, that I think I've used the Max AC function maybe once or twice.

Yeah it looks like it will be fantastic, it's just mines only good at 50% of the screen!

Tried it again tonight with an outside temp of 7C and the heated screen did come on when I pressed the MAX demise button. So looks like the outside temp need to be below a set level, maybe 8C?

Mine this morning at 2C outside

So judging by that picture, the heated windscreen wasn't turned on... That contradicts your previous post and is exactly the same as mine. Shouldn't the Auto light go off and the fan LEDs go to max when you press the Max Demist button?

That's not a picture, it's a video and doesn't contradict anything i've said.
