Oxford drivers beware - Police speed traps

Featured Replies

In Oxford Centre, pulling over every motorist in 20mph area, where almost everyone was over the limit ... kerching!!!!

Are they only targeting Fabia drivers?

If I go there, I think I will leave my Fabia at home and use my Octavia instead. :(

You won't trouble them in your Octavia  :giggle:

Seriously though where's best to post warnings, never normally post outside of Fabia section?

Could be worse.....Portsmouth!!!

What a terrible place to drive in...20mph everywhere...Its so difficult driving at that speed

I would post speed warnings in General Car Chat.

Freedom discounts and promotions, Denis; the guy's trying to save us £60 :D

Agreed, worse on a Saturday, especially with the queues for Gun Wharf. Southampton's pretty dire too with all the sodding traffic lights!

£60 I wish ... try £100, feel like I've been f@cked in the wallet

£100 :o bloody hell that's a bit disproportionate IMO.

Ouch! Dare I ask what speed 'earned' that?

No  in case my insurance is watching. Seriously I'd just turned a corner and dabbed the throttle and then I was speeding. There's no way to keep my car under the limit if the limit is 20. I'll just have to stop driving in town.

2nd gear, no throttle.

I'd much rather cruise at 20 than have to contend with speed bumps!

Don't know if it's still the case, but 20 limit signs used to have no legal standing so were advisory only.

That is what I thought.  My local town centre has a 20mph limit for part of the High Street.

I was in and out of oxford 3 times a day for a few months last year working. In a bus I'd pull away slightly then more or less let it pull itself along everywhere but it's obviously easy in a auto bus. To be honest, the bits I drove only headington hill was clear enough to do more than that and the limit is 30 there anyway. The rest of the time there were lycra ninja cyclists in the way.

Oxford is a feckin' joke for motorists. Seems like its 20 everywhere now in town. No wonder the place is one big traffic jam.

Ah, Oxford, where a 'Coronation Street' style house in Jericho costs £400K+.........so a £60 speeding ticket sounds like quite good value to me  .

They have little moments like this in Cambridge too.

They've just installed a 20mph area near me.

The only problem is it's a green ring and not the legally dictated blue or red.

On a glance green is closer to blue, so that's a 20mph minimum speed limit right?

It's about time they told the hippies to get lost and some common sense limits came in.

When the speed limits get stupid, people ignore them. This is roughly where we are at the moment.

Thought the green 20 signs were advisory, but red ones actually enforcable. Not seen the green ones in a while, all seem to be replaced  with the real deal.

Usually the green ones are valid at certain times.  Most I've seen are around schools, and have times on a plate below the green sign
