new windscreen or not?

Featured Replies

Today a rather large piece of timber fell of a pick up truck on to my car I was going about 50 and he was coming the other way I thought the windscreen had gone but for a second with the bang!

stopped car and I would never believe a piece of wood could scuff / scratch a windscreen and the side window!

I can live with all the scratches and damage.....all over roof...silver roof bars damaged...bonnet every panel on drivers side what I carnt live with is a bloody whistling window if I have it changed...

Has anybody on here had experience of a new windscreen fitted.

Never had any issues, maybe in the 80's but not now.

Why might it whistle?

hand a new screen in my mondeo, no problem at all

Had one on my Astra.. last year...

They seal them down now..

Got Autoglass to fit it, takes about 2hrs as they won't let you drive until the seal dries

I'm on my 3rd replacement on my 14 year old Land Rover Discovery. None of the replacements has whistled. I suspect by the end of the winter I'll be ready for my 4th replacement and I shan't hesitate to get it replaced.  Looking at the Skoda guidance, depending on which adhesive is used, the waiting time is either 3 hours or 16 hours before the vehicle should be moved from the flat surface that the car is to be parked on whilst the screen is replaced. Also the ambient temperature has to be above 15C.

If the new windscreen does whistle you could always buy a CD of Ronnie Ronalde to drown out the noise.
