Looking to get a Evo VI, VII or VIII

Featured Replies

Hi guys, I'm looking to get either a Mitsubishi 6,7 or 8 in the next 2-3 months (want to take my time researching them).

I just wondered if you guys have any experience or knowledge of them? or if not what are your opinions of them?

My budget will be around £7-8k so I'll be able to buy a fairly tidy one from what I've seen on pistonheads.

Cheers

Stephen

I'd suggest the MLR forum for in depth EVO answers.

the hawkeye is nice, but I'm not a fan of the boxer engine.

I might see you over on the MLO.

Evo VI tommi makkinen is the one you want

In red with the decals

I quite like the distincative noise of the boxer

I can get a newer hawkeye with less miles for the same money as the evos im looking at

Plus the interior on the scoobs is better

But deep down iv always been an evo fan. The evo6 is by far the best looking once, especially the tommi mak ones

Even though I could afford one I've set a limit of £7-8k and they seem to be a minimum of £10k. But they do look like a weapon from what Ive read.

I've heard many horror stories about the boxer engine throwing rods and having oil starvation on one of the cylinders.

Plus a Evo is about 10.7X cooler lol.

You will me surprised you may be able to walk away with a makinen for the 8k you have. Either as a higher mileage one or the aweful bright blue. Be aware that there is 3 spec of trim on each of these model. Gsr full electric pack and sports interior. Rs1 and rs2 both unprinted mirrors and door locks.only available in white one has no central locking or electric windows or mirrors or aerial. And not sure if one has nasty non evo interior as per the early rs models

Stu - As a Hawkeye STI owner myself I can tell you that the ONLY weak point in those cars are the pistons. I think Subaru bought them from Nestle!!!! For the 2.5 model Subaru chose a piston which has a high silica content which makes the piston very brittle and therefore very prone to failure - other than that the Subaru 2.5 engine is a dream. Big torque but a big fuel bill as well. The 6 speed DCCD gearbox is virtually indestructible and handles high power with ease. Fortunately for me the first thing I did was get my engine forged - pistons, rods the full monty. I have never owned an Evo so can't comment on their reliability, etc. My car is here just so you are assured I am not talking rubbish  :

If that is me you mean then no problem at all mate - happy to answer any questions you have about the Hawkeye. As I said I wouldn't dream of commenting on an Evo unless I had owned one. For what it's worth though I would only have ever had an Evo VI - they just got uglier after that (in the same way as the 2008 on Subaru hatches & saloons are not a pretty bunch either) :giggle:

The Evo bods I know say the VI  or 6  is the one to get, I'm not and expert on them but that's the version they all like.

Joined mlr today :) turn 21 tomororw so i can actualy start enquiring properly now :)

Having been out in an evo6 tommi mak ladt nigjt all i can say is thats the one too go for...its everything i want in a car
