Combi must have been hit - according to reputable panel beater..

Featured Replies

OK. Now I've seen it, I can't un-see it.

I walked around the car checking for panel gaps etc. when I picked her up, but this is the first sunshine it's seen..

Look at the boot lip on the right hand side. It's more than 5mm higher than the left.. To make things worse, you can tell (once the boot lid is open) that the right light cluster has been removed / re-fitted and the grey plastic around it is loose compared to the left hand side.

What do people think? It's going in for the faulty screen this week anyway... would you pursue this too? Because I feel I should..?

yes. But you may need to employ an independant expert to inspect and report, read up on the sales of goods act or if you bought online the distance selling regs too.

And you the 1st owner?

Yes, first owner.

When did you collect it?

Damn right!

Ask skoda for a warranty/transit damage report and it should have any repairs listed against the car.

8th February collection, howcome? Are we talking SUK for info or go via dealer?

Was there any mention of damage on the PDI sheet if you have a copy, if not ask the dealer to see it.

With this, the heated screen, and dipped beam error it does sound like "something" happened to it at some point..

No harm in asking both. I'm assuming SUK will have info prior to the dealer which the dealer might have difficultly getting. I could be wrong though.

It is utterly shocking that a VAG company will deliver a car with these "issues". As shocking as their inability to manage their production line and order book.

Hope you get a rapid resolution!

Rear ended by another car coming off the transporter anything you like, get all the info you can as has already been said if you ain't happy reject the motor

Reject the motor seems to be a popular phrase. In reality it's very difficult once you've driven it off the forecourt. Work with your dealer and see what they say. If you're not happy, then look into taking it further. They are really eager to please, especially before SUK contact customers for their opinion of the sale. :wonder:

I don't know - but now when I look at the boot line I can see the lid is over 5mm higher against light cluster on right than it is on the left where the bumper, boot and lights meet.

It certainly doesn't look right and 5mm is a lot of variation. I'd ask your dealer what they think could be the issue. It may be that they honestly don't know and that they need to contact others. Either way, they'll be best able to get answers as they will know which departments to contact.

Worst case is that they say a) it looks fine. In which case, compare it to others and show them the differences. Then ask your dealer for the history of the car, ask specifically how they know that its entire journey was safe. Make notes of what they say and ask for evidence of safe transit and arrival explaining that it's because you think that you may have to elevate your query to a complaint. b.They say that you signed to say that the car was in good order. In this case you say, yes in terms of physical damage. You checked for scratches, alloy damage and dents which may reasonably happen within transit, not the gap between panels as you expect the quality control of Skoda to check that the gap is within their tolerances. Of course, to check for damage, you stayed close to the car and this only shows when you move away.

Good luck, take no messing but be polite in the first instance. Regardless of what anyone says you need them on side. Please keep us informed.

Thanks for another detailed response skovirg. This thread is going to be invaluable! I did think at first that I could put a boot sill protector on and no-one would know and that it was within production tolerances and ultimately any attempt to change could make it worse and all the trim even looser! Scary when your paying so much. Despite it all, I love the car though! Just not what happened after it left the production line.

Cars get knocked and bumped all the while during transit...dont forget they'll be driven on and off trains, boats, transporters.....a new car will already have had a bit of a life in its first couple of miles from just having been transported from the factory to the UK.

I had a similar thing with my old Fabia vRS estate, I stuck a boot lip protector on and you couldnt see it any more and no more OCD for me. Its not a bad idea at all to do that. By all means get the garage to check it but it could v well just be how it was built to be fair. That sort of damage should have been picked up and repaired as part of the PDI in any case.

Got a case from Skoda, they say they will be back to me by Thursday with the info I require and that "something doesn't sound right.." Just forwarding them a copy of the email with pics etc.. I sent to the Bath dealer.

I wish you the best of luck with this mate and I hope you get a good result, I find it shocking that a dealer could pass on a car with these issues...

Thanks Steve. I love the car, and will be detailing it once this is all resolved. Was pouring rain when I picked it up, but that didn't stop me taking the following pic! Just made it harder to walk round and assess.

(Just a phone pic on HDR setting, but can not wait to take some proper ones in the sun this year!)

Excellent. I'm sure you'll get it resolved. Are the gaps equal at the sides?

They're great cars, you'll love it even more when you've got peace of mind knowing that the car is all sound. Thursday for a response seems pretty good too.

Apologies if this is not what you are wanting to hear but this sounds all a tad ridiculous - getting excited about a 5mm difference???

Your car looks stunning - drive, enjoy and forget.  Life is too short.

What happens when he sells the car on, when a pontential buyer for the car notices the shut lines are out. The first thing that would spring to mind is the car had been in a big smash, I would for me.

Pretty much nailed it meta. I know 99% of the time it's going to make bugger all difference to most people. BUT. It was heated screen on RHS faulty, headlight on RHS faulty, bootlid / light too high on RHS and I'm thinking I come to sell in a few years, first thing I'm going to hear back at me. It's my first new new car and my 30+ year old motors have better alignment on the boot. I think probably because "I'm into my cars" and have a fair bit of OCD from putting rusting hulks back together bodywork wise that I just didn't expect a list of niggles from a 21st century motor.

BA Life is short - and it's for living. All the more reason that my 24K of hard earned it can meet the spec on the sheet and then maybe I'll be able to deal with the wonky backside! Like I say, getting a boot protector or something!
