89,000 on one engine? Must be a freak engine.

Buy ****e buy twice. Seems to be the case, if it wasnt for the warranty anyway, and i dont think many are brave enough to run one out of warranty. Says alot doesnt it.

  • Yep very true.   I hope everyone with a vRS enjoys it. But the examples I've driven have struggled off the line in anything other than bone dry, warm, smooth tarmac (Even our 1.2TSi DSG Does) and th

  • Each to their own, I get the biggest smiles when I've gone through a tank in half the time

Hardly freak that the guy does 20,000 a year in it, uses good oil & petrol and thrashes it in his not work times.

Sparkly is not the only owner using one out of warranty, and has it at Stage 1.

Running out of warranty is a gamble,

but its hardly the end of the world if you can afford to take the risk.

People that do loose the gamble are hardly loosing a fortune compared to buying an expensive car and suffering depreciation.

anyway, root toot.

We know there are good cars, but not many go on a BMW forum to say that Volvos are reliable,

Porsches are faster and the likes.

You are wrong actually.

No here no one is trolling, we are all Fabia owners, I'm on my third. But I do have opinions on certain models.

The BMW forum myself and Furbytom use is quite open, you have petrols from 102bhp to 320bhp, diesels from 105bhp to 225bhp, comfort and sports models etc, 3 or 5 door and there are regular threads when people are comparing models to A3, Golf and A class much more so than on here..

For me I openely state I don't like the 116d and 118d, I don't like the manual as the pedals are offset and if people come on the board looking for a family car I'll openely tell them to look at an A3, Golf or Octavia as the rear access in the 1 Series is tight due to the RWD layout.

But people on there are not as paranoid about their car choice as some on here,

Yup. Ill openly admit that the a3 is a better car.

Just because iv got a fabia doesnt mean i have to think its the best car ever made, and im not lying when i say i really dont think the vrs is the best model of the fabia.

The best model, i think, is the elegance 1.2 tsi 105bhp.

However this is just my opinion, and im no problem accepting other people think differently.

If they didnt, theyd only have to make on spec fabia...

I accept and appreciate the opinions offered on certain models by those who have owned and lived with said models. We are all indeed different and life would be dull if that wasn't the case.

Most other content here is drivel and passive aggressive wind up.

I don't think you have to have owned and lived with a certain model to have an opinion on it or how it drives.

When I look for a new car I will have several long test drives in many different models. I'll usually try to have one for a day or weekend. If I can't get this through a dealer I've hired cars for the weekend.

My Wife has spinal issues and a quick test drive just doesn't cut it, a run out for a couple of hours is a minimum. Spending £25k and having to keep the car for three years can turn into a big mistake if you pick the wrong car. I've worn that T-Shirt already and lost nearly £5k in 5 weeks.

I think in that time it's quite easy to get a feel for comfort, handling, steering feel, ride, power delivery, gearbox, traction, ergonomics etc. Certainly enough time to form an informed opinion and gain enough information to compare one car against another.

Not enough time to form an opinion on reliability true but certainly enough time to post about the driving differences between a 118i and 118d for example.

The argument can be reversed too, a lot of owners defend their car passionately when told it doesn't drive as good as something else. How many of them have actually driven the "Something Else"

Luckily we do have owners on here that own multiple vehicles in this discussion like Furbytom who can give honest opinions on performance, handling, ride etc.

Cheers

1.4 VRS, Black Alloys with the thinner tyres (standard on vrs).

I also changed to 97 from 95 RON petrol.

I do ~ 50 miles each way to work on M25 and M4 and got 45-46 mpg with 90Kmh cruise speed ~2000rpms or lower.

Not sure if that is the sweet spot...tried 95/100Kmh ie 60Mph, but I think it starts to drop.

So, what is the best mpg speed ?

1.4tsi cthe 28 miles each way to work on m25. Normally see 49 - 56 mpg doing steady 60mph

Or just have a different opinion? :D

And I didn't mention any Skoda model at all.

This one cost me nearly £5k in 5 weeks because I hadn't test drove it for long enough.

I wont make the same mistake again.

Before we bought the BMW we had weeks driving different cars and then going back and driving them again before finally having one for the weekend. Some dealers don't want to know and others are very helpfull.

Rainworth Skoda are usually very good with extended test drives.

Im glad dealers give you extended test drives. Its really good that, especially hearing your circumstances.

And i see how it is. Unless i say the skoda vrs is the best car ever made, im going to upset people.

Seems pretty mature...

adversely, i borrowed my dads black VRS for a few days once and when i gave it him back, he complained that i had managed to "achieve" 9mpg or something!?

You dont get that kind of achievement through careful driving ;) haha

yeah, i think leaving it in sport mode and re-driving a load of old local rally routes in the middle of the night put pay to that!

But when you say power to weight. That guy ruins it whatever he goes in/on

  • 2 weeks later...

just thought i'd update this

over the past week i have done a couple of trips from london to lancaster and back n my 1.6 tdi monte carlo estate, with 3k on the clock.

On the way up, i got 62mph average including getting out of London and getting stuck on the Birmingham ring road for an hour because of a diversion

On the way back, managed 68.9 average including a pit stop in St Albans.

both journeys i just stuck at about 70mph the whole way, as i realised by doing 80 i only ever arrive about 15mins earlier at the other end, and decided the fuel was better in the tank!
